    Hi
There are at least a couple of ways to get to "Device Manager" (that's what I meant to say ) to check devices/drivers are loaded correctly!

One way is thru "Computer Manager" which is a permanant icon I have set up on my desktop.
Here's how to find it > Control Panel > "Administrative Tools" > scroll down to "Computer Management" click to open.

Look down the list and click/open "Device Manager"

If you want a permanent shortcut icon on your desktop,
Right click on 'Computer Management' icon > scroll down to "Send to" > highlight/click "desktop(create shortcut)"

To remove old drivers you can go to
Start (the big round multicolour windows icon bottom left of screen) > All programs > look down the list, click on epson > you should find an "uninstall" button.

The other way to remove Epson drivers is through
Control Panel > "Programs & Features" > scroll down to everything mentioning 'Epson' (highlight/click and follow uninstall directions)
    Reboot the computer

Delete any 32bit scanner drivers out of your 'downloads' folder!

Before you install, shut down/switch off any antivirus/firewall programs (obviously disconnect from internet connection first)

Install latest 64bit drivers from Epson Website

Right! I've done all the items you have so kindly suggested. The only drtivers I found under the scanner were labled system32 so I deleted them. I then went to the Epson site and found the latest drivers for the DX4800 but there are no drivers there for the scanner, just the printer as a whole, so I downloaded them (Windows 7 64 bit). I went back to the scanner folder drivers list and the same "system 32 drivers had appeared again.
Needless to say the scanner does not work, the printer is fine!

Epson say 64bit drivers are supported and haven't bothered to update them since 2009 - so they must work for most people!

    Did you find this driver?

    Epson

Try contacting Epson support then - see what they say!

Another question - have you been deadly precise about what Epson model printer/scanner you have?

There are other specific drivers - for the other versions, such as the DX4800+

Try going to "Start"> 'All programs' > 'Windows Fax & Scan' > click to open
Look down bottom of left column and click on 'scan' bar
Look in 'tools' on top menu, to point to/load your scanner.

    Does it find your scanner?

Hi again Neo101. I think I'm going to have to call it quits on this one. As well as your good self I have also had many coms with Epson and nothing either of you has suggested has got the blooming thing working! I've uninstalled and reinstalled more drivers than I can thinkf of but I always get the same error message and it doesn't work.
By the way, it still works fine on the old computer running Windows XP Home edition.
    Many thanks for your efforts.

    64bit Driver for Epson DX4800

    Don't give up on this.

I've found that the 64 bit Vista driver works on XP Pro x64 edition. Fair chance it would work on Windows 7 as well.

It's called epson318339eu, although I guess there are other area versions.

    Cheers

I have found that I can now use the scanner but not from the desktop icon as before but by going into Elements 6 and "importing". It works fine so I'm happy with this even though there is a bit more to do to get my scans.

Thanks for all the help. Great forum!
