Ghost Disk For my CD/DVD drive.

I recently just installed windows 7 home premium 64bit on my computer and i've had some problems with my CD drive.

What happen's is that i go and place a disk in the tray and close it it will try to read the disk but it will make a noise as if it's reading the disk that a short noise and repeats. It then spit's the disk out and says please insert disk. I've tried using microsfts Drive repair and check but it only flagged my drive as not working and couldn't repair it.

My CD/DVD drive is connected to my mother board with a SATA2 cable and the CD/DVD drive is a PIONEER DVD-RW DVR-216 ATA device. It is set to master in bios. I've reinstalleda few times. Since i installed windows 7 64bit home it has not worked. I can't degrade to 32 bit or xp since it wont read my disk?

I've Searched the forums for similar problems but i couldn't find any that related to this that helped me.

Just a link or a explantion on what i could try or do would be great

    Thanks.

    Hi and welcome

Have you tried re-installing the driver? Look in device manager

Please go to start>search>type device manager.
Are there any "unknown devices" with yellow triangles on them?
Is you driver there , listed, and working?

If y our driver is missing, or there is a yellow triangle on it, you will need to update it.

Let us know if you need further help

It's properly installed, It's just not reading my disk's. I found one disk that it would read today out of about 80. Im thinking of buying a new IDE cable and getting a DVD/CD drive that has the jack for that instead of using a SATA2 CD/DVD.

Thank's for the advice. Anymore suggestions are welcome.

In my opinion, i would purchase a Sata 2, your one may have failed, but it happens. Don't go back to IDE whilst taking take two steps back please, we are past that stage of PC life.

Get on Ebay or Amazon, probably pick a Samsung or Sony up for less than £20

Just recomending mind, not to burst a bubble or annoy you or anything

    Lucky.
