So frustrating! Can anyone help me out?

For around 3 months now, every time Windows 7 has a critical update (I think) it screws my network driver up, and means I can't use the internet at all...

The only way to solve this is to do a restore point.... And I have to do it... Every. Frickin. Day.

Anyone got any advice? Google is being useless (or my search words are anyway) and I cant manually update any drivers... (It doesnt find anything on 'search for drivers')

Im literally going to smash my PC into tiny bits with a hammer if I have to do any more restore points

Any help greatly appreciated!

Yes

I can see you are frustrated. Click the link in the bottom of your post and fill out your system specs so people can see what kind of hardware they are dealing with. Then try to describe what kind of errors messages you are receiving. It's solvable it just takes a plan of action.

You may have to go to your personal control panel to fill out your specs.

You might want to check to see what update(s) are causing this. You might even want to turn windows update off for the time being. Doing a system restore every day negates it anyway. Another option is to press the windows key and the pause/break key. Then go to Advanced system settings. Then under the Hardware TAB click Device Installation Settings. In the window that opens if you select "No, let me choose what to do" that will stop windows update from downloading and installing driver updates without you knowing about it.

Ok thanks for the advice, am doing both now -

Il add my specs here regardless tho -

Windows 7 32Bit
Intel Core 2 Duo CPU E4700 @ 2.6Ghz
2 gig Ram

Now this is a default pre-built PC from Acer.

Acer Aspire M1640. Replaced motherboard with a 'Biostar G41-M7' around abouts the same time this whole problem started...

But the only updates I can find from Biostar seem to be Bios Flashing updates, something that scares me.

Did you re-install windows when you swapped motherboards?

Yea, formatted the HDD, and did a fresh install of Windows 7....
Do you reckon I could just install parts of this critical update, and see if I can isolate the problem?
If its a critical update... And I purposely dont install a part of that... Will it mess up future updates?

I went here > BIOSTAR :: G41-M7 :: Driver
There are chip-set, on-board VGA, on-board lan, on-board audio and USB 2 drivers listed for download under the driver tab. I would at least download the windows 7 lan driver.
What happens exactly when you loose your internet? Does the NIC stop working, any error message to go with that?

Oh thanks for the link, Im downloading and installing the LAN update right now.
I dont actually get any proper error messages, its just when I boot up my browser I get the 404 dead webpage...

So I 'check connection status' in control panel and it tells me my 'Network driver is missing'.

Then if I restore I can surf the net again. Hopefully this LAN update might solve the problem.

The thing is on restore point, the last entry is always 'windows critical update', so Im assuming thats the prob.
