Did you run the Belkin istallation disc?

Is that where the drivers came from? I'm thinking so.. what you are saying is that the Belkin installation is not properly unpacking its drivers then.

    Interesting.
Yes. In XP versions you had to install the Belkin software for the device to work properly. In Vista most of the time it automatically recognised the adapter and you didn't have to install any software for it (or drivers).

But in 7, it does not recognise the adapter and the software doesn't install itself properly (unpacks it wrongly, missing files etc.) So instead you have to get it to recognise the drivers without installing the Belkin software, which is why the method I described earlier seems to work.

That's the problem I had, if you install the software, the shortcut it generates cannot locate a file it needs, because it did not install it properly. Try some of the methods mentioned in the post earlier to see if you can get it to work.

EDIT: Has anyone else with this adapter checked this out, when they've got it to work. In Windows Updates I've got an Optional Update for the Belkin USB Adapter from Ralink. I wonder if downloading this, before any other method is tried, would work so we didn't have any hassle.

ok, i just hooked one of these up myself just an hour ago or so....

first things first, make sure you are matching up your FCC ID number and version of "setup.exe".

Secondly, for those of you who have the ver 4. There are actually two downloads available, "f5d7050-ver4.exe" and "f5d7050v4010setup.exe". The first one is an outdated version (found by first google result). Its tecnically only written for XP and 98, not even vista, so. Use the second one. I believe i still used Vista comp mode install. but was installing and uninstalling so much, long story, but i still have vista comp mode checked. as others have stated, dont plug in till it asks, reboot, yadda yadda, good luck.

Does anybody have anything further regarding this? or any instructions or other findings?
I have litterally tried EVERYTHING posted on this thread, and the thing still doesn't work.

I've been trying for hours, and I'm a little annoyed to say the least.
    Thanks

Yes, as a matter of fact i am currently working on this atm. I have a ver 4.

What i have found so far is that do not use the windows update to install the driver. In my case it was dated 5/7/2007. Doesnt give you but 5 options/settings for the adapter in advanced tab of driver. So i installed the latest Vista driver for it, f5d7050v4010setup.exe. Now previously on 7100 i installed via Vista comp mode 90% of the time, but if you run the troubleshooter on the exe, 7 recommends you to run as XP SP2. Well, currently on a new 7127 build and letting this take its course with just now installing again under XP SP2. I also did the same steps/process under the 7100 build, didnt work for long. So, i will see how it goes here now. If need be i'll try the Vista and Vista SP2 comp modes later today or tomorrow.

also to mention that the windows driver only allowed me connection to and on my LAN... never would give me inet access until i installed under the current XP SP2 mode.

thats a total new one on me. never see any of that. What version do you have, and have you tried running the compatibility troubleshooter on the setup.exe? if you choose next after it changes/recommends the comp mode, then click next on the troubleshooter, the next screen says to report it to MS and send report. Do that.
