Nvidia Driver  

Hello I recently installed Windows 7 and I am having trouble enabling my Nvidia gforce 5500 graphics card. When I go device manager I can see it listed there and it says its enabled but when I right click my desktop and try to change the reolution its not there?? I can enable my integrated graphics card which says "Standard VGA Graphics Card" but the resolution is horrible. Any help???

I have pretty much tried those things and that is the same driver I tried to install. I wish I could upgrade my graphics card but its a PCI card so my options are limited. When I ran the Windows 7 requirements thing it said my graphics card was ok?

Update: Ok so somehow a whole bunch of other reolution options appeared under my integrated brookdale graphics card now everything looks the way it should but i still cant enable my nvidia card

A computer that old is going to have little to no (more no than anything) Windows 7 support beyond what Windows installs natively. In the case of your 5500 the best you're going to get is that last (and only) Vista driver pebbly linked to. The only thing I can see for the driver for it not installing is due to no or only partially working/support for the chipset.

As far as the chipset goes (Brookdale AKA the old Intel i845) doesn't have any Windows 7 support as Intel dropped all support for it a while ago. One thing you can try if you haven't is to see if Windows Update offers anything related to the chipset and if so install it.

So my only options are to run it on the Brookdale video card cause right now it is working perfect on it? Or update my computer....

Not your only option if you can get the drivers for the 5500 to install. Then again the only thing at this point and time that the 5500 has over the integrated Intel video is that Aero will work on it. You could also try running this,

Intel® Driver Update Utility

for the chipset, but I doubt that it will do anything with one that old.

By that I would hope you mean a new computer, as there is nothing left in yours to update/upgrade. Short of adding a new or bigger hard drive, anything else for it would be a waste of money as nothing bought for it would be transferable to a new computer and would cost more than the computer is worth.

I am pretty sure the driver is installed cause I can see it in my hardware devices I am assuming Windows 7 just isnt recognizing it because the driver is not made for Windows 7 no???

I tried the Intel update utility and I am pretty sure it updated the card because thats how all those other reolution options appeared earlier. My only Option before was 800 by 600 which i couldnt see anything at that resolution, then higher reolutions appeared which was a life saver.

Ya I meant upgrade as in get a new computer this one is from 2003 it still works great but an updated one may be in my future.

Try this for the Nvidia driver, first open Programs and Features and uninstall the Nvidia driver if it is showing then run the installer again only this time run it in compatibility mode,

Also double check the bios settings and make sure that it is set to the PCI card as the primary display device and not the onboard.
