Windows 7: ICH10 Family 6 Port SATA AHCI Controller -How to install?

So I downloaded the driver updates cause my computer has been having BSOD and what not and the folder name is "Intel_RAIDAHCI_XPVistaWin7" But theres no .exe to install it? How do I install it? And would this not being up to date cause BSOD?

You should get the updates from the mother board manufacturer. Click the Downloads tab select OS.
Get the latest by date. They are designed to be compatible with your brand and model mother board.

Magateme your specs show no manufacturer like dell, gateway...Is this machine built by you?
Because they usually want you get get the drivers from them, they are supposed to work better with their configurations.

Whatever route you choose, when you right click the file/folder for the driver does it list an option to extract the files? that would be a reason you can't see an .exe file.

If it does, choose extract to desktop (that is the default location), the installer should start when you click on the file to open it.

Yea I built the computer last week, trying to weed out the problems lol. Well when I downloaded it, it was zipped and when I extracted it there was a folder. The attached picture is what was inside it.

Yea that seems to be something along the lines, going to wait and see if the BSOD has subsided and the monitor flashing on and off randomly every now and then has stopped. Reinstalled my graphics card drivers (actually downgraded to an older set of drivers for my graphics card). Time will tell. Ill keep you posted

it may have been the graphics driver causing the bluescreen. if you still want to update the HDD controller, you can do it from device manager. look for an entry titled "IDE, ATA ATAPI controllers" or "storage controllers", right-click the storage controller that is listed and click "update driver software", and navigate to the folder where you downloaded the driver.

A few weeks ago I was having graphics problems also, and was notified by a Win Troubleshooter that I should update my Intel rapid storage drivers.
It even pointed to the Intel page to download from.

Knowing of the caveat to use Manufacturers drivers for compatibility I search the Gateway site, but couldn't find drivers as fresh as the ones offered at the Intel site.

So I took the chance and downloaded the Intel drivers. I clicked on the file, and it started the installation process. Within three minutes the update was finished, and I've been enjoying better graphics ever since.

Although I would also be tempted to update a driver the way you suggest, I never have. It seems the ease of just using the files installer is much easier, and I never remember to use that method.

Then about a month ago I was reading a post from I believe, Corinne, and she suggested not to use that method because it doesn't clean-out the old files properly, and that can cause a conflict with the update, but if Magatame is having difficulty in running the update I would try from there as it should force an install from there.

Another method Magatame could use is to use a Admin CMD window, and remove then install the file from there.

Six of one....half dozen of the other.....Meaning, there's more than one way to skin an install..........

Even though Frostmourne has been expelled it is still listed. Times do change. This should be the accepted methodology for now.
