Yeah. I run 4GB of ram and SLI video cards, so 32-bit can not take advantage of my hardware. This is the first problem I have encountered so far. I am a bit confused why it wont work since it worked fine in 64-bit Vista, AND it worked in 64-bit Windows 7 when I upgraded from 64-bit Vista. Just not the fresh install.

My 32Bit desktop system "through system properties" is showing all 4GB of Ram. SLI works fine. If you had over 4gb, then I would stick with 64.

Look up my specs, and the Logitech Quick Cam works great.

It LISTS your ram fine. Windows does not take advantage of it though. SLI works fine, but it adds to the total amount of ram that a 32-bit OS can address. With 2 cards running at 512MB each, that knocks of 1gb of ram from the 4gb.

32-bit can address 4gb of total ram. That includes system memory, video card memory, and any other such.

Switching to a 32-bit OS is not a solution for me. :) It is just a workaround to ignore the problem.

    Thank you anyways though.
I found 64-bit to run noticeably better. Especially when doing things like capturing video while running games at 1080p.

Why do we still use virtual memory?

In modern processors, there is no penalty for using virtual memory, all translation from virtual to physical address space is done internal to the processor and you won't notice the difference.

So all the physical memory installed in your PC is used by the processor as one big pool of resources. Processes can think whatever they want and address huge memory spaces, that's all in virtual land. Virtual memory only starts impacting performance when pages are being swapped in and out, because all your processes need more resident memory than you actually have.

Swapping means accessing the disk and freezing the requesting process until its page of memory has arrived from the disk, which takes millions of processor cycles (a lifetime from the processor's point of view). It's not so bad if you swap once, as the processor can work on other processes while waiting for the data to arrive, but if all your programs keep pushing each other out of physical memory, you get thrashing and consider yourself happy if the mouse pointer is still responsive!

So you may want to change the title of your post to: "why use physical memory in modern systems?". I would point you to an article I wrote on that topic in 1990, but somehow I can't find a link to it on the web
    There we go.

Why do you need virtual memory in Windows 7, Ram is so cheap now. x64 :)

The camera works, since the driers install, but nothing can be controlled at all. Can not change any settings or anything.

I have a QuickCam Orbit AF. None of the advanced features worked with the 11.8 software, but version 11.9.0.1263 works great in Win7 64bit.

Hey Fillup, how did you manage to install that software version ?

I attempt to install it and it never gets past the Starting Service portion of the install.

The version of software I downloaded specifically is quickcam_11.9.0.1263_x64 for Vista, since there is no Windows 7 specific release.

I have UAC turned completely off, tried installing it with default settings, as well as in Compatibility mode, but every time it makes it to Starting Service, it fails.

That's the version I have as well. I didn't have any problems installing it though. Try uninstalling any previous version of the software first. I think I used the Vista compatibility mode and Run this program as an Administrator option.
