Why does my printer work on my laptop but not on my new pc

    Hi Guys,

I recently purchased a new HP computer running Windows 7 Professional and tried to connect our old HP Officejet v40 printer to it, I had a look for the driver on the HP website but was told windows 7 automatically installs the driver, which it did. But when i printed a document it only printed a quater of the page and then a message saying error appeared on my tool bar. So i told the computer to forget the printer and re-connected it to see if it has the same problem, which it did.
Now heres the confusing bit, I then connected the same printer to my laptop which is running Windows 7 home premium, and it worked perfectly fine, but this laptop has the driver for another printer I use so could it be due to this?

Thanks guys for taking the time out to read my problem and hope one of you guys can help me. Look forward to your reply.

If the Printer is recognized as a Device, go to Start - Devices and Printers, right click on the printer, in this case OfficeJet v40 and click on "solve issues" (i guess that's the name... i have an spanish windows version) a Window will pop up.. telling you the possible solutions, it will tell you that the driver for that device is not installed, click on "solve", it'll start to download your driver and voilá... Printer installed. the same thing happened to me with a DeskJet 3920!

    Good Luck :)

Nope both those ideas have not worked. Now when I connect the printer it does not recognise a printer has been installed, so if I go to add a printer and follow the steps that the HP website show and it adds it when I try to print a test page it comes up with error, I can't even print a word document.

I have found a solution to the problem, what I done was bought a new printer and that solved my problem.
