Program or driver? SPTD - fault

I don't know if this is beloning to "Driver" or to "software" so I will write it here.
I'm trying to install SPTD v. 1.58 or v.1.59. It says it installs allright, and that it needs to reebot the PC, but after reboot nothing has been installed. I have tried to run the installer as Admin, but same result. AFAIR sptd should show up in Devicemanager when selecting "show hidden devices" in the "non plug-and-play" array. But no. And if I run the installer again, it says that there is no earlier version to uninstall, will I like to install? But it won't work.

I have tried to shut Avast down, so no program should holding SPTD up, but no luck. Where do I look for this error?

NB: SPTD is a devise used by Daemontool, Alcohol 120% and others.

    Hi Sven,

You mentioned running the install as 'Admin' but have you run it with 'Compatability' for Vista? This might solve your issue, not 100% guaranteed but it's worth a try

Good idea. But it did not work out. I think it conflights with something else, as others has daemontolls and alcohol up and running, but I can't find it, as I receive no errors.

I had a similar problem after one of WIN7 upgrades. You need to completely remove sptd from your system and then reinstall it.

    Get rid of: windows/system32/drivers/sptd.sys

Then regedit and remove every reference to sptd (you may need to change privileges)
Some entries may not be removable, in that case just change their values.

If you got everything right you should be able to install SPTD.

It is a x64 I'm running. But sometimes in the future I will switch to x86, as there seems to be too many fault and missing features in x64.

    I did not have, and I don't have a file called sptd.sys in C:\windows\system32\drivers ??
