Its the ip4500 i am having the problem with, are you suggesting that the ip3000 driver will work for the ip4500 ?

The software is the same, but the drivers inside might be not "up-to-date", so stick with the ip4500 serie!:)

I do not understand why those ip4500 drivers are at shame...they should work perfect on a windows 7 x64bits. I'm having no issue at all on my IP Pixma.

Well, pops is bringing his printer to my house on saturday to see if ot will install on my W7 home Premium 64bit, if it does then its his W7 Ultimate 64bit that has a problem, if it doesnt then it must be the printer surely ?
I will post back our findings on saturday,

Thanks for all the input offered.

    Vale

I understand what they were trying to tell you now. The driver for Win 7 is included in this add-on-module and that is what NON is using on his.
Though it isn't specifically addressed as having it included or not included on the web page.

If Non is already using it then it should work on your Dad's. Worse case scenario you have to uninstall it in Device Manager.
    Best case it works.
    Mike

    From Non's post
    Canon Pixma IP4500 drivers (x32 & x64bits):

    PIXMA iP4500

Select the OS (Windows 7) & Select the native language, then you'll have the x64bits drivers + add-on module for your printer!

Ok i see your point but i think its a different problem. Here is what we have done so far.

1 loaded Pixma IP4500 driver + add on from canon... didnt work. error pic (post #5)
2 loaded Vista 64 driver. error pic (as above)
3 Ran in compatibilty mode... not an option, ran capatibilty wizzard.... error pic.

The OS is having a problem with this PRINTUI.dll not starting.

It doesnt matter how many times we uninstall or reboot or reinstall etc when it trys to run the .exe the error comes up and that as far as it gets !

So is it a windows os error or bug ? he ran all his anti virus bits and bobs and its clean, the OS has only just been newly installed so its as fresh as fresh gets......

What do you suggest next cos we are stuck, we will only know if his OS is corrupt in any way when we try his printer in my machine on saturday i guess ?

Did you delete the old printer driver in Device Manager before installing the IP4500?

We will see if we get some added ideas before Saturday. If I get any ideas I'll post them up also.

    Mike

Delete the old printer driver in Device Manager first. No driver to interfere with below.
Try running this. It will try to fix registry errors. It is a Windows 7 tool no download. When it is finished running if it finds no problems or fixes them on the first run it will tell you.
If it says it found errors but could not fix them or fix all of them run the scan again up to a total of three times.
It usually takes more than one pass if problems are found on the first pass.
SFC /SCANNOW Command - System File Checker

This takes a while to run. Not hours though. Mine I ran with no errors took about 15 minutes for one pass.
About like doing a Full AV scan.

Mike, i cant thank you enough for your support here. your a top bloke, we will try the scan thing.

Only thing is, where in device manager is the printer driver ? i have looked for it on my system (i have the ip3000) and i cant see my own printer in device manager, and mine works so how will my dad see his ?

Can you give me a pointer as to where or what we are looking for just incase it isnt called for eg a printer driver ?

Thanks again Mike, i await your input.

Here is a picture of Device Manager.
Click Start> Control Panel> Device Manager.

Click the little triangles on the left to open and close the drop list.

Yours should have a printer in here somewhere.
After reading and thinking your Dad's may not actually have a listing. You may not have had a driver install to a point it was listed even as a damaged driver. It would have a yellow triangle next to a problem driver device.

So on your Dad's just run the SFC /scannow as in the tutorial and as I posted to run multiple times if needed. Forget removing the old driver it probably isn't there.

Also be aware there is a space between the SFC and the /

No space between / and scannow. When you type it yourself it is obvious if you are looking for it.
