Mike, I bit the bullet and unistalled the NEC USB3 driver from the Device Manager, I decided to reboot the laptop just in case things had to be updated in the Registry etc.

However, on boot up the computer found that device drivers needed to be installed, and the original NEC USB3 drivers again show up in the Device Manager list.

So not to be outdone I uninstalled them again and without rebooting, tried to install the updated driver program. Again it started and gave you the option of whether you wanted to Modify, Repair or Remove the software, (I've tried all 3 BTW), and once again the dreaded Error 1605 appears - so I think I'm cactus on this one.

At least I think the USB3 drivers are operational as I transferred a 2 GB file at a rate of 66MB/sec and then plugged the drive into a USB2 port on the laptop and transferred the same file at a rate of 35MB/sec. So the drive is transferring at a little less than twice the speed of USB2 - which is disappointing after all the hype about transfer rates of USB3.

I'm wondering if it's worth persuing trying to get the latest USB3 driver to install or stick with what I've got and retain my hair. :) I'm guessing updated drivers aren't going to see a dramatic increase in transfer speed in any case true?

Hi, Im new and not an expert at all.
Nevertheless i found a solution for a similia problem that I had. Is a temp solution anyway.

I reinstall the USB 3.0 from the original driver location, because I think the problem is that the system identify an order driver but is not able to delete it.

To know or unistall at all the old driver. You can use MyUnistaller v1.70 from NirSoft - freeware utilities: password recovery, system utilities, desktop utilities is free and delete all the components fromba program/driver. I just reinstalled the USB because Im finishing my master thesis in this week and dont want to' loose more time and take the risk to' create a bigger problem. When I finish I will try to' uninstall ans use the new driver.

    Hope it helps,

    Ricardo
