Don't install recommened driver for a Network adapter Hey guys, I just wanna let you know that if you have a "Realtek RTL8168C(P)/8111C(P) Family PCI-E Gigabit Ethernet NIC (NDIS 6.0)" I recommend that you don't install the driver recommended by windows update. Once installed it disconnected me from the internet. I tried Windows 7 troubleshoot option, but it could not solve the problem. I checked my modem, and everything was fine. So I just rolled back to my old driver, and my connection was fine again. Just letting you know.
I heard that it is best to download the updated drivers from their site (or your mobo's), not through windows update.
Here's a link (thanks to Andysweb) to get the updated drivers (Windows 7 compatible): [link]

I'm on the 64-bit 7100 build. At first I thought it was my router, but my sisters internet was working fine. | My System Specs | | OS 64-bit Windows 7 Ultimate Build 7100 CPU E8400 - Not OC'd ATM Motherboard Gigabyte GA-EP45-UD3R Memory Mushkin 2x2GB Graphics Card ATI HD4890 - OC'd for gaming (Core:930 Mem:1085) Sound Card Onboard Monitor(s) Displays Dell E228WFP Screen Resolution 1680x1050 Keyboard Saitek Mouse Logitech PSU Corsair 650W Case CM 690 Cooling Xigmatek 120mm Rifle Hard Drives WD 1TB, WD 640GB |

Here I don't even worry using a NETGEAR FA311 10/ 100Mbps PCI Network Interface Card 1 x RJ45 for XP previously as well as Vista and both 32/64bit 7. The XP mode and presently running Vista on the VPC beta all connect. Knoppix and ubuntu live and installed also seem to connect.
The device manager lists that under network adapters as the Realtek RTL8169/8110 Family PCI Gigabit Ethernet NIC (6.20). Without a router instant connection! With a router added?
The cable modem in use is still shown with a red X inbetween that and the router. Are you running cable or other there? | My System Specs | | OS Windows 7 Ultimate x64, XP Mode, W8 RP VM, Linux Mint Debian 2nd OS HD- 7 Pro x64 second case CPU AMD Phenom II X4 975 Deneb 3.6ghz - 965 on new mini tower Motherboard Gigabyte GA-790XTA-UD4 Memory Kingston Hyper X DDR3 1600 1.5v 16gb - Mushkin on 2nd build Graphics Card MSI HD Radeon 5750 1gb - MSI HD Radeon 6450 on mini tower Sound Card Creative Labs X-Fi XtremeGamer - Realtek onooard 2nd case Monitor(s) Displays 2 x Acer P191W 19" widesscreen - HP 20" widescreen mini towe Screen Resolution 1440x900 native - 1600x1024 on 7 Pro x64 build Keyboard Microsoft Recusa Razor - MS Comfort 3000 on second build Mouse MS Trackball Explorer - A4TECH dual scroll wheel trackball PSU Corsair 750TX - primary / Corsair CX600 - second Case Antec 900-2 - SSD compatible / NZXT Vulcan mini tower Cooling Zalman CNPS9900A Hard Drives Primary Ultimate x64 build-

Umm, I'm not quite sure what your question is, but my ISP(AT&T) is not cable. My local area has fiber-optic cable installed. | My System Specs | | OS 64-bit Windows 7 Ultimate Build 7100 CPU E8400 - Not OC'd ATM Motherboard Gigabyte GA-EP45-UD3R Memory Mushkin 2x2GB Graphics Card ATI HD4890 - OC'd for gaming (Core:930 Mem:1085) Sound Card Onboard Monitor(s) Displays Dell E228WFP Screen Resolution 1680x1050 Keyboard Saitek Mouse Logitech PSU Corsair 650W Case CM 690 Cooling Xigmatek 120mm Rifle Hard Drives WD 1TB, WD 640GB |

FIOS! That's still not available here unfortunately. When sick and tired of the old dsl setup here I ended up with cable. That's the name haha. Yea, we live in a new-ish area in my town, one of the first neighborhoods to have it. They do charge extra though if you want insane speeds. I didn't feel the need for speed, so I chose the cheapest plan haha ;P | My System Specs | | OS 64-bit Windows 7 Ultimate Build 7100 CPU E8400 - Not OC'd ATM Motherboard Gigabyte GA-EP45-UD3R Memory Mushkin 2x2GB Graphics Card ATI HD4890 - OC'd for gaming (Core:930 Mem:1085) Sound Card Onboard Monitor(s) Displays Dell E228WFP Screen Resolution 1680x1050 Keyboard Saitek Mouse Logitech PSU Corsair 650W Case CM 690 Cooling Xigmatek 120mm Rifle Hard Drives WD 1TB, WD 640GB |

Hey Zeppo, I have had that same problem with a netgear usb wireless adapter. Every build since beta, windows has shot me out a upgraded driver in my optional updates, I installed it once and rolled back just like you. Fool me once shame on you fool me twice shame on me. That might offer a solution to seeing one of the two routers here added on and actually connect for a cnange. With the cable modem itself the connection is seen without any drivers for the modem at all. I simply plug the cable from that into the nic card.
I would like to get one or both of the wireless routers working for adding on another test build(old Socket A build 1gb memory) for seeing how 7 will run there. I went for the second speed here in order to see the 12mbps ready boost over the basic 6-8.
The options for 20, 30, and a pro setup for 50mbps were also starting to get a little pricey unless having a hard wired network where "they" call the shots on what modem/router combo is used. No thanks! | My System Specs | | OS Windows 7 Ultimate x64, XP Mode, W8 RP VM, Linux Mint Debian 2nd OS HD- 7 Pro x64 second case CPU AMD Phenom II X4 975 Deneb 3.6ghz - 965 on new mini tower Motherboard Gigabyte GA-790XTA-UD4 Memory Kingston Hyper X DDR3 1600 1.5v 16gb - Mushkin on 2nd build Graphics Card MSI HD Radeon 5750 1gb - MSI HD Radeon 6450 on mini tower Sound Card Creative Labs X-Fi XtremeGamer - Realtek onooard 2nd case Monitor(s) Displays 2 x Acer P191W 19" widesscreen - HP 20" widescreen mini towe Screen Resolution 1440x900 native - 1600x1024 on 7 Pro x64 build Keyboard Microsoft Recusa Razor - MS Comfort 3000 on second build Mouse MS Trackball Explorer - A4TECH dual scroll wheel trackball PSU Corsair 750TX - primary / Corsair CX600 - second Case Antec 900-2 - SSD compatible / NZXT Vulcan mini tower Cooling Zalman CNPS9900A Hard Drives Primary Ultimate x64 build-
