Sony Vaio Webcam Issues

I have been having issues with my webcam for quite a while now and I need some help. The webcam did work when I first got this laptop. Now no matter what program I use it with the picture for the webcam just appears black, however when I shine something such as a torch at it then it shows up. (Attached Pic). I can't run a system Restore because I can't remember when the problem started.
Anyone Help.
My laptop is: Sony Vaio VGN-NW20EF
and im using Windows 7 Home Premium 64-Bit OS

Thanks

Codyrob, Welcome to SF. Have you tried to update the drive in device manager? Maybe even uninstall it and grab the correct version off Sony's support site?

I have tried updating the driver through Device Manager and no such luck. Also I couldn't find the driver for my specific model on the Sony Support Site.

I looked as well and the Sony site was just making me mad. If you can find the proper driver I would uninstall it in device manager then re-install. How about your bios is it up to date? Many times the manufacturer will post additional updates correcting just these and other issues. I would stay with searching for the latest drives and bios updates for your machine and perform these.

Let's not go there then (bios update). I would how ever keep trying to locate the proper driver for your 64 bit Windows 7 off Sony's site. While there I would write down and check for the latest bios and under that any updates that could relate to the web cam or similar processes. The next time you boot you should go into the bios and then write that version number down and then we can see if and how far out of date the bios is. First things first I would look for the current info off Sony's site. I would help but I've had so many bad Sony products that I have a real aversion to spending time on there site as it is so complex and convoluted as to drive me out of my mind. lol
