It is actually the firewall part of the security software which locks the new lan cards (cabled or wifi). So , yes. Install the drivers as advised in the manual, uninstall Zonealarm, than reinstall zonealarm. Do NOT export and import the settings. they have to be made from scratch again. Zonealarm tends to also store the registration number in registry too. So you are not likely to need the serial reg number again.

    Hi all,
it appears I have the same problem as above, but none of the suggestions worked for me. THe driver for the card installs fine and windows does not complain. In Device manager it shows up as 802.11 USB wireless LAN card. Driver is Ralink 3.0.2.0. and win says this device is working properly. The blue light is blinking. However, if I want to enable it in adapter settings, a small window says enabling for 2 sec, but the adapter never shows up as enabled. If no other networkk card enabled, there is no network visible.
    What to do?
    Thanks

What security software are you using?
Also go to Control Panel/Admin Tools/ Services and make sure your WLAN AutoConfig is running and is set to automatic. the Ralink chaps did suply a control interface for the adapter but I doubt the adapter itself is going to work without the windows wireless config service. Some adapters supply their own service ... but i didn't see any running with this one.

    security

    Hi,
I had done a bit of homework before coming here. Therefore, I had seen that Kaspersky (my security software) could interfere with things here. But even with Kaspersky exited, no luck with installation.
Upon Win Diagnose the connection, windows does say there might be problem with the driver. However, I havent yet verified the Windows wireless autoconfig. Will do next time home again....
    Thanks already for you help

exiting or disabling the security software doesn't do it. I tried that too. I had to uninstall and reinstall.

you might also want to try uninstalling and reinstalling the drivers after you uninstalled kaspersky and once the drivers and adapter all work fine , install kaspersky back. .. someone i know had to do it that way. for me it was enough to reinstall zone alarm. different soft works ... in different ways.

Good, to be sure I will roll back everything to before installing anything of the USB WLAN card, then take out kaspersky and so on...
    Thanks

    security software

    Hi Chris,
did what you told me and low and behold, all went fine. THe NH is installed and running as I write this and kaspersky is reinstalled and running as well. Thanks a bundle for the tips and the detailed and very useful help.
Some Softs do indeed work in mysterious ways, as you mentioned.

So, problem solved, thanks again and best wishes

exclamation point in Win7 (in virtualbox) host OS is Ubuntu. Virtual box sees wi-fi adapter, but configuration utility in Win seven will not start. Says adapter not there. No antivirus, no zone alarm.
