Windows 7: 1152x864 resolution not in list at all

1152x864 resolution not in list at all

My monitor is a 17" CRT. I'm using a Radeon HD 4850 card with the latest Catalyst pack thing and you may have inferred from the title, the resolution 1152x864 is not in the list anywhere.

I have tried setting the max resolution of the monitor to 1152 and it just defaults to 1024x768.

I think it may be a problem with the default Windows 7 monitor driver and since my monitor is so old I cannot install the drivers for it.

Anyone have similar troubles?

In this case I suspect it is the monitor. Vista and Windows 7 like to "know" what device they are connecting to, and in the case of older monitors, they did not have this capability so Vista/Windows 7 defaults to a generic driver which usually results in lower resolution.

The only suggestion I have would be to look around for a newer monitor, maybe keep an eye on your local Yahoo groups Freecycle area to see if anyone has a newer 17" CRT they are getting rid of for free... or nowadays, you can get a 19" widescreen LCD for $99 or less online, or $130 or more in local stores.
