    Driver Dunce

I'm hoping to get a couple of general questions answered. I've recently and carelessly done a clean install of Windows 7 Home Premium and have been having some driver issues (I'm finding that I bit off more than I can chew and have thus donned a dunce cap + bib), and in trying to resolve them, I've come up with a couple of questions that I have not been able to google answers for.

I've noticed that some of my devices have multiple drivers. I have two processor drivers (both identical), two audio drivers (both different drivers), and multiple identical and different drivers for system devices.

So, I have 2 general questions:

    1) Should I have 2 drivers for one device?

    2) Should those drivers be identical, different, or both depending on the situation?

I think what would be a good idea here would be for you to do an expanded view of your device manager and post a snip or screen shot of it so we know exactly what we're looking at.

A Preferred Method of Uploading/Posting Screen Shots
    Thanks. Fabe

    Ignore everything under system devices.

    The rest looks normal.

Yes, you will have two processors cause it's a Multi Core processor
The Audio is correct as well.

If you are having problems,, what are the specifics.

    After some thought, ....

You could try uninstalling one of the High Definition Audio Controllers under System Devices,
then reboot and see if it is re-detected.

I ran the setup program for my graphics driver which I downloaded from the HP support site and that installed some extra things like controllers and it installed an ATI audio driver in place of the High Definition Audio Controller. I running some audio right now to see if I'm still having any issues, but I think that may have solved it. Along with the audio issues I've been experiencing some BSoD as well which I'm currently looking into in the respective forum.

Here is what I would do.

Back up all data if you have any on the drive.

Getting BSOD's from a fresh install is going to be a bad drivers install or bad hardware. Unless you installed other software, which could also cause issues.

You should run Memory Diags and let them run for no less than 4 hours
It is the only way to be sure all of the memory is good.

    Then run Hard Drive Testing

Then you can try the following,,, or try this first,,,,

    Run Check Disk

    Then run SFCscan

    After that is done,,,,,
Start from scratch and install the drivers in the order I listed them.
    Download the following drivers.....

    1. IDT High-Definition (HD) Audio Driver
    2. AMD High-Definition Graphics Driver
    3. Realtek Local Area Network (LAN) Driver
    4. Atheros Wireless LAN Driver
    5. Realtek Card Reader Driver
    6. Synaptics TouchPad Driver (and if you have the fingerprint reader, get that too, otherwise, skip it.)

I am not familiar with AMD and guess they don't have a Chipset driver anymore?

This is easier generally than trying to diagnose BSOD's from a fresh install.
You could technically spend more time trying to daig a BSOD on a fresh install then starting over again and possibly resolving the issue faster.
