Try updating your drivers for Gateway DX4710 from here:
    Gateway Support - Downloads & Support Documents - Desktop / DX Series / DX4710

Yeah, I know what it is.
In the BIOS, you enable AHCI, Install Windows 7 and it loads the AHCI driver.
You're done, in terms of the AHCI driver.

If you give an explanation of what you're trying to do, we can save you some headaches.

I'm trying to update from version 6.x to 9.x. I have, the driver downloads are only for Vista_32 not W7_64.

The motherboard has the Intel G33 chipset on it. Just use this,

    Intel® Driver Update Utility

and let it detect and install what is needed.

I'll do this later when I have more patience. My computer won't stay on without crashing for more than 2 minutes. I'll push my luck tomorrow, possibly later tonight.
