Been searching with no success so far, but need a driver for an HP LaserJet 3150. Needless to say the XP drivers have failed to work so far. Next experiment will be with the LaserJet Series II drivers, will post the results here.

Been there and done that. Here's what comes up when you actually click the Vista OS link:

Sorry, your product is not supported in the Microsoft Windows Vista Operating System.
For more information of upgrade programs and new product information, please go to the HP Trade-In/Trade-Up Website, or HP Shopping.
We are sorry to inform you there will not be any Windows Vista operating system printer drivers available for your product.
If you are using the new Windows Vista operating system on your PC, consider an upgrade to a newer HP product that will work with Microsoft’s new Vista operating system.
To help you choose a new product upgrade, the following tool will be helpful: http://www.hp.com/support/hho/productreplacement
For more information on HP’s Trade-in-Trade-up program: http://www.hp.com/united-states/tradein/home_flash.html

Needless to say not an acceptable solution. Been doing a lot of reading and think that the series II drivers might work, and then again maybe not. I'll post as soon as I try them.

It's a parallel port connection. Have any ideas?

This should do it
Control Panel > Hardware and Sound > Devices and Printers > Add a printer
This will open a "Add Printer" dialogue box. Here select "Add a local printer." Then select "use existing port: LPT1," on the next screen select "Windows Update." After a while select the manufacturer (there are 2 HP's) and select the printer and then the driver should be installed

No luck with letting control panel -> hardware and sound -> etc. do it. My printer's not listed. Tried a bunch of them that sounded similar, like the 3050 and the 3250 with the different PCL and PS drivers but none of them worked with my 3150. Grrrrr!!!

No luck finding Series II drivers anywhere. They're not available for download anywhere apparently. Not that I'd necessarily have any better luck with them.

I own a HP Laserjet 3100 and resolved the issue as described in my posts here:

IT Resource Center forums - Windows Vista drivers for the LaserJet 3150 Multifunction?

Note that you should use the latest incarnation of the BioPDF printer (my instructions are old). If you don't uncheck anything you won't need to install Ghostscript.

The instructions assume that you have a parallel port on your motherboard. If not it gets a little more complex. You then NEED a parallel port card with the chipset mentioned in my latest posts. The only virtual machine I've tried that supports parallel cards is VMWare. USB to parallel port cables will not work (I tried). Note that I used VMWare player (free) to create the print server virtual machine.

I hope this helps.

Thanks for all of the information and hard work that you did to come up with your suggestion. Was hoping for a much simpler solution, like a driver that works, but that's obviously never going to happen. I'm done buying HP printers.

I read someplace that the 3150 is a re-branded printer from another manufacturer but I've searched high and low and can't find anything specific. If I could maybe the original manufacturer has a driver.

Thanks again for all of your help.

The issue is not HP's alone, no vendor supports their equipment indefinitely. Obviously if it's using a parallel port, it's getting rather old and from HP's statement that they don't support it with Vista drivers, that means they've dropped that model from the active support list some time ago.
All vendors are the same, Epson, Canon..etc, they all discontinue support on aging equipment after some time, so no matter who you buy from it will eventually be the same thing. If a newer HP printer has what you want in a price range you want, over another brand, don't let the fact that they discontinued supporting your old printer deter you from looking at it, whatever you buy that's going to happen sooner or later.

XP drivers will never work with Vista or W7 as the core systems are just too different.

I know that my solution is somewhat involved but at least it works for ANY printer that can be made to work in a virtual machine. It all works because Acrobat renders a print document accurately no matter where it is produced.

In addition, I can fully utilize the HP Laserjet 3100 including its scanning facilities in Windows 7. The tricky part was to get the parallel port expansion board to work on the newest motherboards which did require using VMWare player because the other virtual machine products do not support parallel ports very well. Otherwise it would have been a breeze.

Addendum: Whereas under Vista the HP Laserjet 2 drivers could be used to print (300 DPI only) across the network to a system running a shared 3100 or 3150, this doesn't work under Windows 7 anymore. Therefore the only way, I am aware of, to continue to use these reliable, inexpensive and otherwise highly functional printers is via the method I described in this thread.

I ended up finding one that worked without the unsigned driver bootup, but i can only get 4.1, and if I try to mess with the settings, I get massive amounts of bass. adanzig, does your driver work with 5.1?

I only have a two speaker setup so don't know if the driver I have will work better for you. All I can tell you is that it works great with my very old speaker setup. I'm currently booted into XP and don't have access to the driver name and number so I can't post it here for you but I'll get back on here once I boot up into 7 to let you know more details about it. Did you try the driver that regli posted the link to a couple messages up from this one?

OK, looked at my driver and here's all the information that I could tell you from it:

It's called LiveDrvUni-Pack(ENG). The product name is Sound Blaster Live! Driver Pack II and the file is
23.3 MB in size. If you want me to get a copy to you just let me know and I'll post it on my skydrive for your to download. I also have the SB game port driver files, which is a separate file and installation.

Hello,

Could you please let me know where I could download these drivers from?

Just upgraded to Win7 and it did not recognize the sound card at all.

Thanks a lot in advance!
