HP Photosmart 8150 driver/ W7 64bit ver Home Premium HP Photosmart 8150 driver Windows 7 Home Premium, 64 bit, dell xps400 deminsion
I think I should have loaded the 32 bit version in this machine as well as my notebook. My photo printer is having no luck getting drivers through the recommended way -
HP's web site says to search it out for the machine on their support site, click on install it after a clean no glitch re-start with the computer and printer. Its supposed to go.
It went ok with my PSC HP2200, guess I got lucky.
My only other option - to move the printer to a 32 bit Windows7 computer and it might take the install disk.
If anyone has had this particular issue, suggestions are welcome, thanks. | My System Specs |

I have just looked at the HP site and it is written there that the driver is included in windows 7 and that all you have to do is switch the printer on connect it to the PC by USB and windows 7 will then install the driver. | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number Something I threw together OS Windows 7 Ultimate x64 CPU Intel Core i7-2600K Motherboard Asus P8P67 Memory 16 GB G Skill F3-10666 CL9D-4GBRL Graphics Card ATI Radeon HD 6870 Sound Card ATI Radeon HDMI / Realtek ALC892 Monitor(s) Displays 2 x 22" standard monitors / LG32LC56v TV to watch films Screen Resolution 1920 x1080 Keyboard Microsoft Comfort Curve Keyboard 2000 Mouse Hama M3110 / Logitech M305 PSU Thermaltake Toughpower Cable Management 750W Case Antec 300 Cooling Noctua NH-U12P SE2 and 5 120mm Case fans Hard Drives 2 x OCZ Vertex2 111.79GB

Pooch, thanks for that return comment. You are right, that's what they said. And I did that, very methodically, making sure all possible glitches was cleared. The computer was cleared of the printer icon that wasn't successful as an instal, the printer was unplugged, cord removed, restarted also. Computer was restarted, then printer was turned on and inserted so Windows 7 could do its thingie. No luck. I tried searching in HP for some tech help. Nothing offered. I think when HP figures their 32 bit printers run into a snag with the 64 bit OS like Windows 7, they only refer you to 'their' forum, which I didn't find any help in. Like I said, I think I better try to re-install this printer in a Windows 7 32bit OS, which means I move it to a new location in the house and see.
Thanks for your efforts, I'm new here, and think this forum has some sincere folks trying to help you with good common sense tries, or good knowledge of Windows 7. I already was able to find out why my wife's little dell can't show a thumbnail of what's open on the internet, lacking drivers for the integrated video in an older notebook. So that issue was answered. too bad this one can't be fixed without moving it - IF that works. Agian, thanks. The printer itself doesn't care which system you have
When the printer is connected and switched on have you looked in device manager to see if it showed up?? if yes just right clicking on the entry and selecting update drivers may be enough to get it working.
PS as an after thought, if you have just installed windows let it update itself as these drivers may have been released in an update.
Its your decision which way you go but I would like to wish you well and when you get it working a post here would be welcome as you might help others with the same problem | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number Something I threw together OS Windows 7 Ultimate x64 CPU Intel Core i7-2600K Motherboard Asus P8P67 Memory 16 GB G Skill F3-10666 CL9D-4GBRL Graphics Card ATI Radeon HD 6870 Sound Card ATI Radeon HDMI / Realtek ALC892 Monitor(s) Displays 2 x 22" standard monitors / LG32LC56v TV to watch films Screen Resolution 1920 x1080 Keyboard Microsoft Comfort Curve Keyboard 2000 Mouse Hama M3110 / Logitech M305 PSU Thermaltake Toughpower Cable Management 750W Case Antec 300 Cooling Noctua NH-U12P SE2 and 5 120mm Case fans Hard Drives 2 x OCZ Vertex2 111.79GB

 Thanks,
I didn't realize that about the drivers, that makes it hopeful. I have done all the Windows 7 updates, and check it daily just in case. I find that if I let it wait a day or so, then go back and try the right procedure again, sometimes, its worth it. I will as you suggest, do another clean attachment, and check in Device Manager to see what shows, and see if I can click an update on the driver.
One of the issues might be there are 3 versions of this particular printer listed on HP. Mine is the plain one, the other two have a couple of letters next to the printer name/number. I've not clicked on either of the other two for attempts at getting it to work.
I thought the printer had drivers or electronics inside that were glitching with the OS based on the OS version 32/64bit, and we werent' going to get things to work. I havent' given up yet. Will go back for another shot.
IF it gets solved, I'll post here to say so and what helped. Tried again, no luck.
Opened Device Manager, clicked on update drivers, it went through the same motions as it does with just a fresh plug-in. Says its installing the drivers, then says they weren't installed. Clicking on troubleshooter just runs the same thing over again. I'll do a delete from the computer, restart everything and think about it some more. | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number Dell XPS400 Demension, Dell XPS StudioNotebook, Dell 8600 Inspiron OS Windows 7 1/32bit ver 2/64bit ver Home Premium Memory 4gb, 4gb, 2gb Graphics Card none, all integrated on mobo Sound Card integrated on mobo Monitor(s) Displays dell flat screen Hard Drives 80gb (?) on XPS400

Hi John47, thanks for the response.
I have already done exactly what those instructions advise to do, and have done them quite meticulously, hoping for a good install. I think I'm just having a bit of bad luck in that they fail each time I try. I will go back and do it again however, one of these times it might take. I believe its just a matter of getting lucky. Windows 7 says its got an in-OS driver that Windows WILL install, but it keeps not getting it to go. I guess you had it go with your machine, and that's good for your setup. My other printer went ok as wellfollowing that same install method, an all-in-one PSC HP 2200. Not a problem. I went to HP's forum - not much there in this area. I'm going to keep trying this method, AND I'm going to keep looking on HP's site for a way to write them and ask for some help. Thanks. | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number Dell XPS400 Demension, Dell XPS StudioNotebook, Dell 8600 Inspiron OS Windows 7 1/32bit ver 2/64bit ver Home Premium Memory 4gb, 4gb, 2gb Graphics Card none, all integrated on mobo Sound Card integrated on mobo Monitor(s) Displays dell flat screen Hard Drives 80gb (?) on XPS400

I just went back to HP's site and copied their message for a driver for my machine - says a downloadable driver is not available. Software & Driver Downloads HP Photosmart 8150 Photo Printer - HP Customer Care (United States - English)
HP says the driver is in the OS. Which hasn't been successful for me yet. Its probably something I'm doing wrong. I'm going to try it again - but won't be able to try it until after Wednesday, work. Will post if I'm making any progress. thnkx | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number Dell XPS400 Demension, Dell XPS StudioNotebook, Dell 8600 Inspiron OS Windows 7 1/32bit ver 2/64bit ver Home Premium Memory 4gb, 4gb, 2gb Graphics Card none, all integrated on mobo Sound Card integrated on mobo Monitor(s) Displays dell flat screen Hard Drives 80gb (?) on XPS400
