ATi 9550 drivers don't work correctly

    Hi evreybody,
I'm new, I'm not english (so, I'm sorry since now if something will be wrong with the language) and I have a big problem with my video card since I installed Windows Seven.

AMD does not support my video card (an ATi Radeon 9550 256Mb) with compatible drivers for Seven. I tried to install the drivers for Xp 32bit but even if I selected the compatibility mode (in properties) for that OS, when I restarted Windows after all the driver installation process I can't see anything on my monitor, or better, I see (it's difficult to explain) many vertical lines mainly colored in white and black flashing continously.

Now, I changed the video card with another one, only to uninstall the old drivers and retry in another way. And here comes out the second problem. When I go in the Control Panel to select the windows uninstall tool he says me that it's impossible to uninstall old drivers or non-ATi drivers.
I'm looking for an external tool for uninstalling driver; I found Driver Magician.

except this second problem, is there any solution for the incompatibility with my video card? (please, don't say me to change it )
(I tried to search here on the forum for something, but I didn't find anything)

    Thank you very much,
and sorry again for my english.
    Bye

    EDIT:
My Windows Seven version is the Release Candidate, so the 7100 one.

Most people have found that the ATI Vista drivers will work okay in Windows 7. I used them until ATI came out with the v9.6 drivers.

What brand of card is the second one you installed?
Did you go to control panel and try uninstalling the driver(s) there?

This page has the latest drivers for your 9550 ATI video card.

Your Video card is aging and has lost support with the new drivers since Catalyst 9.3. If you would like a link to bookmark to help finding your newest drivers you can go here. You will need to select the Vista drivers and once you have them downloaded you right click/ properties/ compatibility/ select run as Vista.

I see from the OP that you have driver remnants from both ATI and Nvidia on your OS. See the driver installation tip below and make sure that you use Driversweeper to clean both ATI and Nvidia before installing the new drivers.

Here is a copy/paste of a post I just made in another thread:

I also have had some problems with ATI drivers in the past with Windows 7. The problem with doing a clean install of drivers is that it requires a reboot but once the computer reboots, the WDDM driver install takes over before I could install any drivers. There were some tutorials out that was supposed to disable this automatic driver installation, but none of them were working for me with a clean installation.

But here is the workaround that I have found to be effective:

       Tip
    1. Download and install Driversweeper (and make sure you have the video driver that is to be installed downloaded)
    2. Go to Device manager Right click my computer /properties/ device manager / and Disable any under display adapters.
    3. Reboot into safe mode (usually F8)
    4. Run Driversweeper and select your video drivers ATI (or Nvidia if someone else with Nvidia is reading this)
    5. Manually delete any ATI folders that may be located at C:\ ATI and Program files (both X64 and X86)\ATI
    6. Reboot again into Windows and install the new drivers then reboot once the installation completes.

By disabling the drivers in device manager instead of uninstalling them, it allows you to reboot without the WDDM installation taking over. You also should use Driversweeper and do a clean driver install any time you install Video drivers instead of just updating them, especially when switching between ATI to Nvidia as any leftover driver remnants from one brand will interfere with the other.

The other video card is a nVidia FX440 or something like this...

Ok, I have already restart my computer after having installed the new 9.3 VIsta drivers. Before doing this I created a restore point to avoid any loss of data. Now I'm writing with Vista 32bit drivers installed and even if I haven't tried them with some games yet I can say that the problems that Xp drivers gave me, are disappeared.

I'll update this thread as soon as I'll check the drivers with some games.

And this is the final post I'll write here.
I tried all the possible choises (Vista or Xp drivers 32bit from 8.12 to 9.3) but I didn't solve. Also by installing the drivers manually I couldn't do anything.
The ATi 9550 maybe, it's too old.

Now I'm writing from Xp. I must say that Seven is the best OS I've ever seen, better also than Xp, but needs an hardware updated.

    Bye

    Ohh yeah!!!!
ATi (AMD) has released the drivers for my ATI 9550 for Windows 7 64bit (for the 32bit version I didn't see)...

When I tried to find compatible drivers some month ago they were not there. The compatibility was only from series 2xxx...

Maybe I could reinstall windows, even if i'm looking to change it...

    Thanks!!!!
