    No 64-bit drivers available

    Hello all,

I've run into quite the quandary with a unique "printer" and need some guidance. I have a new Win 7 Home Premium 64-bit system that I was asked to install for a business that is running a laser engraver, but there are only 32-bit drivers for the laser model that they have. I attempted to use the other 64-bit drivers they use, but the data sets are different in the profiles. I was hoping to use the XP machine that it was connected to as a print server of sorts, and just make it like a network print server and not need to install the drivers but that is not working as well. i have seen the local port creations, but that still requires a 64-bit driver, and at this time there is no such thing. I'm open to any and all suggestions.

    thanks in advance

We might be able to help more if we knew what printer, but there may be a workaround. You may be able to run a virtual machine (if hardware supports it) just to get the functionality.

    Good Luck

Hello frozenphoenix and welcome to Seven Forums.

Are Vista x64 drivers available? Try to install in compatibility mode.

Thanks to both of you for your quick response. The printer is an Epilog Legend 24XT laser engraver. There are no 64-bit drivers for this device for any version of Windows.

    ZigZag,
The machine is running Home Premium and i attempted to run the VM software for XP Mode provided off the Microsoft website, but then it failed saying that home premium is not a supported version for XP Mode. Are there other emulators of sorts that would be available elsewhere for home premium?

    Marsmimar,
I really wish that there were any sort of 64-bit drivers for this device. The manufacturer has provided 64-bit for other devices in their line and I scanned the differences between that and the provided 32-bit one fro my device, but there are drastic differences in the 32-bit section of the code as well.

    Thanks again guys

Sorry to hear there aren't any x64 drivers. Obviously a manufacturing decision. (IMO a bad one.)

You might try the free VMware Player.

Definitely a manufacturing decision as they have released a 32 bit Windows 7 driver for it,

Legend 24 and 32 Driver and Firmware Updates

They have put out a 64 bit driver for some of their models,

    Zing Firmware and Driver Downloads

Have you or your customer contacted Epilog to see if there will be a 64 bit river coming for that model?

Correct, I have downloaded the 32-bit drivers, but as we know, they don't install on the 64-bit system. They are not open on the weekends, so I was hoping for a workaround while I was still in town today, but if these fail, I will be contacting them on Monday to see if they are working towards one. This was a long shot and was hoping someone had a possible quick fix for running the laser from the old machine with the files from the new machine.
