Hello Jim, welcome to the forum.

Click on the Start orb type Sound, select sound from the menu that appears
You can use this to configure your sound device.
Click on properties and you can adjust the levels.
Right click on the speaker symbol in the notification area of the task bar and you can select the Volume mixer.
I would recommend going to Dell support/downloads to get the driver

Sorry I tested it and still the same but I think that the volume is a bit higher. Anything for the Bluetooth ??
Basically I want to fix the sound rather than the BT.

Forgot to say that the Bluetooth is the one that the laptop has in it. Not USB!

I think all the sound problems are probably down to the driver.
You can normally use the vista drivers, but you may have to install them in compatibility mode
