While normally I'd also go for the whole "if it isn't broken..." story, this time, the 270.61 drivers
actually help a fair amount for the GTX cards. More for the GTX400/500 range, but the GTX200 range also got a few improvements.

Do the drivers extract fine then fail when trying to install? If that's the case, use Driver Sweeper to clean off current NVidia drivers in safe mode, restart normally and try install them again (don't worry about the automatic driver install that Windows does, it's about to be replaced anyway).
However, if the files don't extract correctly, you might have a corrupt installer.. Clear your browser cache and try download the update again.
By the way, what GTX do you have? Your system specs just says "Asus Geforce GTX"..
