    [SOLVED] Equalizer disabled

I would really like to fix this annoying problem.
a while back i had driver corruption (original thread HERE)

The current problem is that I'm unable to use the equalizer on my audio card.

I am forced to "Disable all sound effects" in order to get any sound (including the driver's test sound) to play. The sound plays fine, but this disables my equalizer.

When i first built my PC everything was fine. but now, when i uninstall drivers, reboot, and reinstall drivers from the MOBO CD it is either detecting the wrong one or there is some other issue i'm unaware of.

    Motherboard: 785GTM-e45
    Device manager:
    video: "ATI Radeon HD 4200"
Audio: "ATI High Definition Audio Device" and "RealTek High Definition Audio"

i am very certain that the ATI HD Audio device used to say "RealTek Digitial Audio" or something like that.

uninstalling and reinstalling drivers - or updating to the latest Vid/Aud drivers has not helped.

(for those people that intend to be helpful but don't know - there are instances where the video driver is actually responsible for the audio device, rather than the audio driver)

Any help you can give would be useful.
if you need any more information to help me with this problem then just let me know.

You need to download and install the Realtek HDMI Audio driver, for your ATI video card's audio.

You can start here, on the Realtek site.

You also should download and install the Realtek HD Audio driver from the same source page. You may need to run it twice to get the install done... the first time uninstalls old Realtek drivers, and you reboot, and then you run it a second time to install it, and reboot.

You should then see the HD Audio Manager (i.e. Realtek audio configuration, including EQ) in the System Tray (it's the orange icon like a speaker).

First i installed "ATI HDMI Audio Device R2.55" file name : HDMI_R255.exe

    no effect.

next i installed "Vista, Windows7 Driver (32/64bits) Driver only (Executable file)R2.58" file name: Vista_Win7_R258.exe

    that did the trick.
there are still a few things in the RealTek equalizer control panel that don't seem to work proper, but the equalizer works and i'm getting better sound than before.

Why the CD drivers that came with the motherboard stopped working and won't install right beats me.
but at least i can use my equalizer now without going deaf mute during my video conferences.

Thanks. I'll mark the thread "solved"
