Same situation when printing something in two copies, gotta wait same time for every copy.... Is there any cure for this??? I do not have this problem with Windows XP...
Please fill out your system specs completely.
Also are you running windows as x86 or x64?

This problem is present on OS Windows 7 x64, CPU AMD 6000+, 4GB ram, Asus AM2NE motherboard....
Also I used this printer on Windows XP x86, SP2 and SP3 without any problems for years, so definitely printer is OK, and problem is with software / driver...

I do not have any experience with Virtual PC so I must ask this... You have installed drivers with XP Mode, and than those drivers works fine in Windows 7, is that right??

Note: Win 7 shares the same code base as Vista. Since there are not always Win 7 drivers available for devices, I have often found that Vista drivers will work.

I don't know when HP released Vista drivers for the 1010 (had to fight with this dang printer to get those working in the past), but they seem to have them now.

Here are the steps I took to get the 1010 working on Win 7.

Download HP drivers from here:
HP LaserJet 1010 Printer series*-* HP LaserJet 1010/1012/1015 Host Based Driver - HP Business Support Center

Unzip into a folder/destination of your choice (remember where you put it)

Go to Devices and Printers window (from win 7 start button)

Click Add Printer

Tell it Dot 4 printer as the Port type

Click Have Disk

When it can't find the driver on A drive, click Browse

Point it back to the Unzipped file location you saved earlier

It should find the .inf file at this point.

Follow the remaining steps.

This should work fairly easily...at least it did for me.

Jay

it works ok, but I want to say, that "Port Name - Názov portu in Slovak" is DOT4_002

I enclose a scan of "Test Page" which I print on LaserJet 1010on Windows 7. Image is here:

Hp 1010

Thank you Rocketman for this. Using Windows 7 Pro 32 bit

The suggested use of the Vista drivers and using the Dot4 port worked for me.

However performance is very slow, is there any way to speed it up, RAM, buffers etc?

Any suggestions?

solution for a "slow" laserjet 1010

"....I changed from win xp x32 to 7 x64 and had the same problem with a missing 1010 driver. Download the vista x64 driver from hp resulted in a
VERY slow printer which printed with long breaks after every page, inacceptable.

Solution:

Add printer - Dot4_001 - Windows Update, take the HP LaserJet 3055 PCL5. After this, the 1010 prints (as 3055) fine.
Bothered by the wrong printer name and symbol: take the 1010 previously installed (with the slow vista driver), go to printer properties and change
the 1010 driver to the 3055 driver.
Symbol and name of the 1010 remain correct. You can even delete the 3055 printer now from the printer list - the driver will remain on the system.
Only in some app's print menu you will see the hp Laserjet 1010 as printer name but HP LaserJet 3055 PCL5 as printer type, and in the Windows 7
printers and devices menu a unnown device symbol LaserJet1010 remains below the printers row - bu t who cares - better than buying a new printer
with maybe more expensive toners and drums (sorry hp)."

It worked for me and now my LaserJet 1010 prints without any delays

I am also using win 7 x64, but the LaserJet 3055 PCL5 solution does not work for my Laserjet 1010. Don't know really why? First, I turned off the printer, then chose add printer and installed the printer by the instructions. Then I turned on my printer, but a box appears that says new hardware found and recognizes the new device as Laserjet 1010. And it does not work. How can I make win 7 to recognize my 1010 as 3055
