I have the laser jet 1018. I am using 64 bit Vista Home Premium. I checked the HP website and there is no driver, yet, for 1018 (probably the same for 1010). My plan is to use Vista and HP (at least until 10/22 or until SP1 is released). After that point when I need a new cartridge, I will look for drivers, again or buy a new printer. I find that the cost of cartridges is almost as expensive as new printer.

    Hey,

I've tried doing exactly the series you just laid out, yet i'm getting no fruit for my efforts. here's what i am coming across:

    Win7.7100.x86

    Installed using DOT4 port

Select Vista32 drivers fresh from HP

Installation Completes and Device shows up in CPanel with green check mark

Open notepad and print text --> icon turns to yellow hazard and doc stays in the spooler with no status.

So... Rclick printer and 'troubleshoot' only to get "Troubleshooter cannot identify the problem".

as soon as I cancel the document the icon status changes back to a green check mark.

    ?!@#$?
Hmm, don't know what to tell you. Those steps worked perfectly for me. My laserjet 1010/1012 is working just fine in Win 7.

I had a hell of a time getting it to work in Vista, but I managed to fudge my way through it so I was quite surprized that Win 7 worked so easily.

I did not want to dump a perfectly good printer so I was very happy when it all just fired up.

Make sure the printer is turned off, unplug it if it's plugged in. Now plug it in again, plug in the USB cable, then turn the printer on. Does it say installing new device or something to that effect?

yep, it goes through the motions just as you would expect. vista installation was smooth for me, with no issues. i'm still holding out, as i really don't like the idea of re-buying equipment that should work in the first place :/

    Laser Jet 1010 No Install

    Here is a work around:
    1. Since you have a partial install I suggest that you remove all HP files. Physically remove the printer from your system. Use control panel/Remove Programs etc. Also use the device manager and uninstall all HP drivers, printers etc.
    2. Under the assumption that you are using x64 you must go to the HP support site and d/l the driver only for your printer using the vista 64 printer driver. DO NOT USE XP DRIVER.
    3. Once you have completed the D/L locate the file, no need to change the compatability mode but you do need to change the file to run under administrator.
    4. Once you have accomplished this its time to power up the printer and connect it to you PC. Since you have successfully removed all HP drivers at the beginning of this workaround OS 7 should see and recognise the printer nad install the vista driver.
Good luck and tell us how it went.

    HP 1010 Windows 7

    Hi,
I have completed above mentioned process, but I have noticed some "problems" with printing. When I send something for printing I wait for 5-10 seconds and in this time only what's I can see it is flashing of green lamp on printer. Same situation when printing something in two copies, gotta wait same time for every copy.... Is there any cure for this??? I do not have this problem with Windows XP...

i finally got it working after just ignoring it for a while.

i plugged it in, turned it on, and bam.... 6 printer test pages came out. i haven't gotten any of teh aforementioned lag time, but every once in a while it will stop responding unless i open the lid and shut it again. then it resumes as normal.

interestingly, my LJ2600n that i brought home from the office worked like a charm with no messing around.

Please fill out your system specs completely.
Also are you running windows as x86 or x64?
