Printing in Windows 7 on HP1010...my workaround

I have struggled a lot and got really mad at HP for not creating a driver for a really new printer...but I found a workaround that I am willing to use constantly.

This is how I fixed the issue.

I installed VirtualPC under Windows 7. It comes for free with a number of Windows 7 versions. Under Virtual PC XP I installed 3 apps and the HP1010 drivers for XP.

    App one Word Viewer (free)
App two Excel Viewer (free) and
App three Adobe PDF Reader (free).

I also loaded pdf995 in Windows 7 which is a free PDF converter.

I put a shortcut for Apps 1 to 3 on my desktop in Windows 7.

So now when I have a word doc ready to print in Windows 7, I use the shortcut to MS Word Viewer and simply load the DOC file and print it.

95% of my files I print are either Word or Excel. Everything else I "print to PDF" in Windows 7 and now use the link on my desktop
to the Adobe Reader under Virtual PC and simply print the PDF file to my HP1010.

I now can print 100% docs in Windows 7 with my HP1010.

    Working hp1010 on windows 7 64 bit.

Hello. I found a solution. Here is my hp 1010 printer working in Windows 7 64 bit. Not only that it is working but is recognized with the correct name. I also tried with 1012 and 1020 drivers but it only worked in vista 64 bit. And even there the printer refused to print from time to time. Here it is working greate. I have attached an image. I hope you ca see it. Pm. so I can send the working driver.

This may sound stupid, but how do I send a PM on this forums? If there really is a working driver, I'd gladly test it! So please quadrian post it somewhere, anywhere, but tell us how to get it!!

Edit: Supposedly there is a "Mail" Button under posting, but I can only see "Quote", "Multi" and, in case of my own posting, "Edit". Am I completely stupid or is there a chance it isn't me...?

I've been using HP for many years, but the lack of 64-bit support is disappointing. I cannot print two-sided in Windows 7 64-bit. Anybody noticed the price of good quality laser paper lately? Not to mention it's a waste to print on only one side. If a printer is expected to last five years I can't see any reason why a company with the resources like HP does not support that printer for it's lifespan.

I bought the printer for it's quality and lifespan, but I'm researching other companies for a new printer with much better support.

Having to install 3 additional programs to run a printer is ridiculous.

Well, we know that one - doesn't it say on page 1 of this thread that it isn't working? You have to endure delays and can't print larger jobs or more than one job at a time, or is there any update to that? Have you figured something else out to make that one work properly on Windows 7?

There is a small delay 3 -5 sec. But once the prints starts everything goes smooth. I haven't printed large documents yet. But this works just fine for the moment. I just installed the driver nothing else.

ok. So this is crap. The delay is between each page. If you want to print one page... only and you don't mind to wait a delay of a few seconds ok.. if you have a 10 page and up document... this will not work. Too bad.
