Windows 7: Display driver stopped responding and recovered!

Windows 7

I think it's a reasonable assumption that no solution to this problem has been found. A search of several help forums reveals this happens with a variety of graphics cards and operating systems since XP. I have the problemin both my laptop and desktop computers, both running Windows 7 home premium 64 bit and Nvidia graphics cards. I do no gaming. My black screens happen either toggling through pictures in the Windows picture viewer or when I'm closing IE9. I'm a heavy Photoshop user but the problem has never happened even when I've taxed my RAM to the max. The problem did not start to happen until both computers were about a year old. I've conscientiously kept both cleaned to minimize heat retention due to accumulated dust. So far the problem is an annoyance and only caused me to lose work once. Still, It seems strange that no one has identified a set up that eliminates this problem. I've tried some of the proposed solutions, but nothing has cured the problem.

For people having the "Display driver nvlddmkm stopped responding and has recovered" problem and the following Kernal-Power BSOD, try using a VGA cable to connect your monitor to the graphics card instead of a DVI cable. This worked for me for some reason, and I had no problems for over a week. ...

I'm absolutely confused at this error. I've googled it but I've gotten no answers so far. This error ONLY occurs when I'm playing Assassin's Creed II and it occurs at specific points during the game. ...For the third time. This is beginning to freak me out. I don't know one graphic card from another and wouldn't be able to give you the proper information unless you directed me as much.
