Generally the wireless adapter has to be the corresponding match to the modem or router used. That's kind of the must have scenario there for most wireless setups to begin with.
The other card would have to be compatible with what you have there for the modem/router if also wireless while most nic/ethernet type cards are seen as the network adapter without a need for modem/router
drivers simply detecting the active connection.
For the cable connection here I simply added in a Netgear nic card and plug directly into the Motorola modem on the ISP's compatibility list by ethernet. But still trying to add in a wireless router for seeing a shared connection by way of wireless nic and usb adapters has been a trip!
What type of connection are you running there as far as modem/router? Often the manufacturer will have a guide on the support site for setting things up to go by.
