Windows 7 - Windows 7 RC internet connection problem.

windows 7 has always ran great until one day I got on my computer and it randomly said no connections available. iso i restarted. it didn't do anything. i did trouble shoot and said there was a driver issue. so i went into device manager and tried to mess with the driver. nothing. then i plugged in an ethernet cable. that didn't work. cable must of been bad. luckily i dual booted XP. and internet works on that. my wireless card is a realtek 8185. i looked for drivers for it and can't find any that work.


anyone have a guess on what i can do to fix it? upgrading to a newer build is an option if that would fix it. if i would upgrade it would be to build 7600.

I assume you are running the 32bit RC? in the dual boot with XP there. Vista updated driver sets will normally work while no drivers were needed for the ethernet connection here only the nic card itself. Realtek has several listed at Realtek

The auto installer download is good for both the 32bit and 64bit Vista editions which would make that compatible with 7.

my wireless has been a little finicky on xp too. it would cut off at random times while playing a game. i have a spare card in another computer somewhere. would that do anything possibly?

Generally the wireless adapter has to be the corresponding match to the modem or router used. That's kind of the must have scenario there for most wireless setups to begin with.

The other card would have to be compatible with what you have there for the modem/router if also wireless while most nic/ethernet type cards are seen as the network adapter without a need for modem/router drivers simply detecting the active connection.

For the cable connection here I simply added in a Netgear nic card and plug directly into the Motorola modem on the ISP's compatibility list by ethernet. But still trying to add in a wireless router for seeing a shared connection by way of wireless nic and usb adapters has been a trip!

What type of connection are you running there as far as modem/router? Often the manufacturer will have a guide on the support site for setting things up to go by.
