PC Won't wake from sleep

Hi,

Hoping someone can help me with this.

I installed 7RC a couple of months ago. Since then whenever my pc sleeps I can not wake it up. It used to wake up fine in XP.

To get it going again I have to cold reboot or pull the plug. When it comes back up everything I was doing is still there, I just have to enter my password.

I think I have all the settings right but if someone could run me through everything that needs to be set I'd be really grateful.

Thanks in advance.

Rich

Mine is the same and takes about 2 and a half mins to wake up

I have my bios set to wake up on double mouse click, it does wake up eventually

Should be fixed in the official release!!

Not keen on sleep mode, as it leaks power keeping components on. Switching on and off also clears system cache and memory buffers.........which speeds up your system

HI and welcome to sevenforums
thanks for filling out your system specs

A assume you tried just pushing the wake button (usually the shutdown button) so I will move on to your settings in power plan. what is checked under ac, and battery.

Hi again all, thanks for the v quick replies.

I have tried the power button which used to work in XP but doesn't now. I have also tried every button on the keyboard and mouse. I updated the Nvidia driver yesterday to the latest.

Power settings

Top level=Balanced
Turn off display=30 mins
Put comp to sleep=5 hours (changed to stop it sleeping)
Turn off HDD after 30mins
Wireless Adapter =max performance
Allow hybrid sleep=on
Hybernate=never
Allow wake timers=enable
USB sleective suspend=Enabled
Power button action=Shut down
Sleep button=Do nothing (I don't have one)
PCI Express=moderate power savings

Think that's all the relevant ones. I know the BIOS sleep is set to auto and I think manual options available are S1 or S3. I'm not home at the moment. I am remoted in but of course can't check BIOS.

Let me know if any other info would help.

Many thanks

By the way Cindy I do agree with you but as I use remote software I need to use sleep so that I can use WOL rather than just leaving it on all the time.

Subscribed for more info. I just experienced this today. But after I did a hard reboot, Windows 7 simply "resumed" instead of a new login. I'm not sure if that's due to my solid state OS drive or what. This is my first experience with both Window 7 AND solid state technology. I mashed every key on my keyboard and the thing STILL would not wake up. But every time I hit a key, my keyboard lights go on once and off, so at least I get some response. But the screen doesn't wake up.

Is there anything new in Windows 7 regarding sleep/wake that I should be aware of here?

I too have similar problems. Sometimes it wakes no problem, other times it fires up but the screen stays blank and the HD task light stays on solid. I pull the plug (flick the hard switch on the back of the PSU) and as mentioned above, sometimes it goes back to my previous state in Windows after logging in. I use both 'High Performance' and 'Power Saver' settings. I haven't trialed and errored it yet but I think this may be occurring only when I am in 'Power Saver' mode and yes I am overclocking with CoolnQuet enabled and working when I switch to 'power saver' mode if this makes any difference.

I also use to have these kind of problems with XP so I thought maybe it was a BIOS setting but I have it set as follows:

Suspend Mode - Auto
Repost video on S3 resume - No
Set ACPI 2.0 - Enabled
ACPI APIC – Enabled

Nice rig you have - I hate nvidia, and its damn drivers, and the problems its caused people, however, the fix is generally installing the latest video card driver, so if for some gaming reason you havent been updating your drivers try the latest 7 driver.
