    Gateway 7322GZ/no sound

I have a Gateway 7322GZ and after several weeks of trying varying drivers (Windows 7 native and others) I am not able to get any sound out of it (yes, both the speakers and the audio jack). It is a Conexant Audio/AC97 type driver. I tried a number of different drivers at the Gateway site (yes, in compatability mode) with no luck. Any suggestions on an alternative to the Conexant drivers (I tried the Sigmatel with no luck either) I am getting real frustrated with the lack of sound support for older laptops. If this continues, I am going to be forced to dump Windows 7. Any tips would be great at this point. Hopefully, they will correct this by the release date but I doubt it.

build 7100, 3/4 gig of memory, Intel P4, 2.8Ghz. Everything else works great but no sound. Anyone have any of these 7XXX series laptops running Windows 7? Is your sound working?
