I had a problem similar to this and it was due to old remnants of previous driver versions left on my machine. I used Revo uninstaller to get rid of all the leftovers, then the install worked perfectly for me. It took quite a while to get rid of everything left behind but it paid off.

thanks commodore, its just the only display drivers that are on my machine are the intel ones that come with the asrock z68 pro3 by default. I have tried uninstalling them but will try again to see if the catalyst suite is recognized.

I think I have to turn off automatic updates too because when I restart it just re-installs the intel graphics. When i unistall them aswell,,it gives me the option to delete ut im a bit sceptical about doing this.

so to clarify then, i dont think that would be a solution. does that program have full features as a trial?

edit: well i just tried this and as you would expect because the correct drivers arent installed absolutely nothing happens.

Look ins at the 3rd screen shot in your first post, might be a good idea to install the chipset drivers before going any further with the video card driver.

Better option would be to disable the onboard (which is actually integrated into the CPU) in the bios if the option is there.

thanks man ill get on that...two minutes
ok ive done that and restarted,,by disabling the onboard updates? s that basically getting around uninstalling the intel graphics of the z68 permanently to allow for the radeon graphics?

shoudl this be my next step or are there alot more fundamental things(drivers) i should install before video drivers? thanks

this is all I have , and that catalyst manager there as already mentioned just isnt accessible

if possible, i hate to show link to another forum but there's alot more people at sevenforums than at hard forum so please post here: but basically see this: drivers ati problem install pls help - Page 2 - [H]ard|Forum

@stormy13 was your suggestion to turn the onbaord updates off in accordance to disable the intel chipet graphics being there?

but just to clarify this is an entirely new build and there are no previous drivers
