Abit AirSpace Wi-Fi on x64

Out of curiosity is anyone running a buffalo WHR-G54S airstation? I've installed the above driver so that my airpace wireless card will work (thanks so much for the driver!), but I am having trouble connecting to my router. I can connect to other wireless routers without issue.

edit: so i solved my issue by changing the encryption from WEP to WPA-PSK
I was also able to connect using WEP if I changed the encryption key index to 2...not exactly sure what my issue was. either way it is fixed now

Hi, I have a problem with the mod Abit Airpace wifi card. It looks like it run well, but actually, when you download, the download speed is unstable and slow. Anything else is fine.
Can anyone have a solution?
I use windows 7 64bit

Hi Zigzag (or Ken),
I already try this driver and it won't work. I have to use the mod driver of Turgo ( page 2) to go to the internet, but the download speed is suck. I just thought that the driver work perfectly, so I decide to buy this abit airpace wifi card. But in the end, it works but not in good condition. I have to download stuffs I want into my laptop and then move it to my desktop. It's too complicated and too inconvenient.
By the way, I don't know how to view my info about my mainboard or how to go to the Bios. I try F11 , F6, F10, however, I can't go in the bios mode.

the 64 bit vista driver will work if you install it in compatibility mode. You can learn how here http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/316-compatibility-mode.html

when I install it by the compatible mode for vista sp2 or vista , the blue death screen appear so I can't go in the windows. I have to restore back to the nearest point. So, I cannot use your driver ( main driver), zigzag3143
This is the first time I meet that blue screen on this computer.

Thanks VERY much for this - I was wrestling with this problem for ages, but that works absolutely flawlessly. AND you can use the abit program with it too, if that's what floats your boat.

Things might have changed since the RC1 but take a peek at what i said below if your having problems (pci wifi b/g or something similar)

Its a little bit of a pain rite now because Abit have not made any attempt to update there drivers since 2008 and unfortunately not all vista drivers work with 7 and sometimes cause more hassle than its worth

I've just signed up here as I've come to the end of my rope with my Airpace. I only just thought of searching forums for answers, though I have been using other forums for years.

I had the same issue as everyone else where it would BSOD. Happily that has been resolved with the advice in previous replies.

Unfortunately it is still not operating right. I want to use it as an access point so I can have my PC, netbook and Xbox online at the same time. I am in uni accommodation, and they allow a maximum of 2 devices to be connected to the ethernet point (otherwise you have to mess about with MAC Address on the providers website). I have installed the utility software and have the driver sorted, but the utility keeps acting up.

Looking at it, I have set up the access point and everything is in check. Except I cannot get my netbook to detect the wireless signal. Below is a screen shot of what I see in the utility. The main problem I seem to have is turning the radio on and off (it wont turn on after being turned off) and that when the radio is on, it's status is "Not Associated".



I am running Windows 7 x64.

In a linked question; my graphics card (NVIDIA GeForce 9800 GT) has a fan attached to the underside, which is blocking a PCI-E port. I need access to this port in order to have both my TV Card and Airpace installed. Should removing the fan be avoided? I don't use the PC for gaming; only TV in Media Centre and DVD's in WMP.

edit: further playing around has me more confused. Under the Statistics tab, the RX CRC error counter keeps increasing. I had a quick Google and found it could be interference or a bad connection. I have changed the channel, the wireless mode from g/b to b and checked the antenea is properly joined. None of these made it any better.
Rebooting the PC; the radio is turned off, and clicking the on/off button doesn't change the status. Could it be to do with the proximity of the fan on the underside of the graphics card perhaps?

Removing the fan from your graphics card would be an exceptionally bad idea trig - you would need a special passive cooler to get a fanless graphics card to work without overheating.

Have you got any other PCI-e slots on your motherboard? You can use the card in any of the slots on your board, not just in x1 slots.

[edit] Having looked at your motherboard you don't have any other slots.

Without actual physical contact the fan won't interfere with the card in any way, so it's not that. Unfortunately I fear the Atheros drivers and the a-Bit software are simply incompatible - if any extra functions were added to the drivers that a-Bit provided then the Atheros ones won't cut it I'm afraid.

You say the university won't allow >2 MAC addresses to connect - is it wired or wireless? If it's wired then why not invest in a cheap 10/100 router and connect through that? That way you just register the MAC of the router with your uni providers and the others shouldn't be passed through.

I had a Netgear RP614 for just that purpose at uni. They're going pretty cheap on eBay.

Anybody still in hope - incase you didn't know Abit went out of business back in '07, unless anybody can figure this thing out we aren't getting any new drivers.

I'm using the generic AR5006EG driver, it works, but I can't use any of the features (like access point etc).

I'll have a poke around at some point, but whenever I try to install the driver I get insta-reboot loop, not like the beta version where it'd crash randomly.

In the meantime, have a crash dump

Ok im a tard where is this file?? I have done searches and find nothing.

Go to Device Manager in Control Panel (or wherever). Right click on the adapter, then click properties.

On the driver tab click on "Update Driver", then "Browse my computer for driver software". Instead of actually looking, click "Let me pick from a list...", then find "Atheros Communications Inc." from the left hand list, then you want "Atheros AR5006X Wireless Network Adapter". Then click next etc until it installs the driver for you.

I had a couple of crashing issues with the AR5006XS driver, but you could try that if you like.

Use the AR5006EG driver, this is the chip the card's built around. Used it for ages with no problem.

Just to let you all know, I'm working on a fix right now, but don't hold your breath - if I find one it won't be anytime soon.

Thanks a lot Potaohead! Great pointer! Just bought an Abit Airpace card as I may need to go wireless for a while. Did not work under Win 7 Pro 64 bit. The diver CD is useless as are the drivers on the Abit site. Your tip has gotten the card working very nicely thank you very much! Will have to see what happens when I place my PC in another room from my wireless router!

OK, so im currently going through an upgrade from Vista 64bit to 7 64bit and I have this card currently installed using the 64bit drivers from aBit's site. During the install, I am getting to the screen where its Transferring files, settings and programs and then a BSOD hits, kicks out the install and reverts back to Vista. Should I uninstall the driver to the card prior to the install of 7 and then do the Atheros trick?

None of you have the problem I do with the generic "AR5006X" driver? My computer crashes all the time while browsing. I can't close tabs or anything. At times music start skipping and stuff. Anyone with the same problem?
