    Averatec 6130HS-20

Hi all, I have an older Averatec 6130HS-20 with the origional 500 Mb of ram and still running XP SP2 and was considering installing Win7, I'm a bit concerned with the availability of drivers. I went to http://www.trigem.com/us/support/drivers.asp and downloaded all the Vista drivers and I believe I can bump the ram up to 2gigs, but also had some concerns about ram compatibility and different opinions about the max ram the computer will support.
    Any help is appreciated. :)

    Welcome to Windows Seven Forums.

Run the Windows Upgrade Advisor: Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor - Download - Microsoft Windows

It should flag up any problems you're likely to encounter.

Also note that unless you've upgraded the hard disk, that machine ships with a 4200 RPM hard drive. It *will* be painfully slow when there is disk I/O, especially booting and building/maintaining the superfetch cache. Upgrading the RAM wouldn't be the only thing I'd suggest upgrading, and at that point it might make more sense to buy a small notebook (not a netbook, but a subnotebook) if that small, low-power form factor is important. It will end up costing almost the same amount of money, and the machine won't be 5-6 years old either. It's up to you, but my suggestion (on the HDD speed alone) would be "don't do it".

Thanks for the advice, I hadn't realized or considered that.
