Deskjet 1220c
I just purchased a new HP Workstation with Win 7.
Sorry to all of you, but I hate Win 7.
Worse, the idiotic User Account settings are an incredible pain. Went to the MS site and found information on how to turn all of the UAC's off. I then tried installing a trial version of ACAD and received the message I did not have adequate authorization to install the software!
So today I connected my Deskjet 1220c to the USB port and tried installing the driver. Screwed up my internet and I had to contact HP tech support. Turns out it messed up my Broadcom driver???? Had to uninstall it and then reboot.
Got that fixed and tried installing the printer from Win 7 printer installation in Control Panel. Error message comes back that there is a problem with the printer. Clicked on "find a solution" and Windows comes back with "can't find a solution" to this problem.
Go to the HP site and it says go to the MS Windows Update. Go there - no printer driver.
Searched this forum and see that others who had similar problems were able to download and install 64 bit Vista drivers. Clicked on several of the links that were supposed to take me to the HP download page for the driver, but the driver is no longer there - just a message to use Windows Update.
Spoke with someone at HP and they said that because my printer is so "old" they cannot provide any support unless I am willing to pay a fee - BS.
S, does anyone have the actual "Driver File" that they can send me so I can try installing it?
I have a new Mac Pro running the latest version of OS X and when I connected the HP 1220c to it, sure enough, no problem!
I held off on buying this Workstation because of Win 7. I previously bought a Sony laptop running Vista. I despised that so much I sold the laptop after a couple of months.
I got so fed up with WIndows Vista, I bought the Mac Pro and a MacBook Pro. I wanted to dump Windows completely, but, unfortunately, too many of my software programs only run on a PC, so I have been switching back and forth between the PC and Mac.
After buying the Z800 I was going to sell both of my Macs. However, given this problem with the printer (I also have a Color LaserJet 4550 that I have not tried to connect yet and a LaserJet 5MP that has a parallel port connection, which the Workstation doesn't have) so now I'm thinking of selling this HP and switching completely to the Mac using Parallels.
I'm sorry for the length of this post, but I am infuriated that HP (I know they are the ones who have to write the updated printer driver) doesn't support their equipment.
I also had an issue with fonts on the Workstation. I contacted MS who told me I had to contact HP since the Workstation came pre-installed with Win 7. I called HP and they said there was nothing they could do - they don't support any software!
So, all I can say is think long and hard before you purchase any HP products. They used to be a GREAT company but since they bought Compaq, they have pretty much turned to trash.
Getting back to the problem at hand - if anyone haas the "old" 64 bit Vista drivers for the DeskJet 1220c, please send them to me.
Thank you,
