Sony Vaio no audio device after Win 7 install
Hi, I just did a clean install of Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit on a Sony Vaio VGN-NS190J. I have gone to the Sony site and downloaded and installed all drivers, etc. Everything works great and there are no errors in Device Manager, but the audio device does not show up. When I go to Sound Properties it shows No Audio Device Installed. I downloaded both versions of the audio drivers from the Sony site, both Realtek drivers, and when I run them the install starts, I click few a few screens to start the install and I get the box saying it's checking the system and installing. The box then just closes and it never installs. I even connected to a Sony tech who took control and tried to fix it but was not successful. They said it must be a hardware problem. The sound was working fine on Vista before I upgraded to Win 7. Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!

This will help you to fluff out your system specs AND let you know what kind of audio you have.
UPDATE YOUR SEVENFORUMS SYSTEM SPECS
User CP (3rd item in the top menu bar) |
in left-hand column, under Your Profile, Edit System Spec |
Use Speccy - System Information - Free Download
and/or SIW to gather info for filling in the blanks.
Do me a favor. Please add the word laptop or desktop to the “system manufacturer” block.
Provide full windows version info, such as provided by Speccy:
MS Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit SP1
Use the “Other Info” block for Optical Reader, Mouse, touchpad, wifi adapter, speakers, monitor
Scroll down and click on the SAVE CHANGES button.
My general approach, which doesn't always work, is 1) the Trouble shooter available thru the control panel and 2) the FitxIt site.
Control Panel | make sure that small icons is selected, then TroubleShooting | click on HARDWARE AND SOUND | you will see a playing audio and recording audio option
For the FixIt Solution Center:
Microsoft Fix it Solution Center: troubleshooting software issues
When you go into device manager, do you see a Sound, video and game controllers item and underneat that a High Definition Audio Device with perhaps a yellow marking on it? Right-click and see if you have an "enable" opton.
Oh yes, device manager:
WIN | type DEVMGMT.MSC | ENTER
WIN is the key with the wavy microsoft flag on top
