howtoFix: printer (canon bjc 210sp) -usb-to-parallel adapter -on win 7

Hello, I am trying to get my old but working canon bjc 210sp printer working on win 7 professional . I use a usb-to-parallel adapter to connect.
The printer is not recognised although the adapter is recognised and it is also not listed in "add printer" for manual addition.
The printer has builtin drivers in XP and I think there has got to be a way to get those drivers over here and make it work. I have a logitech VUM14 which i got to work via a workaround posted on the internet, even though its not officially supported on Windows 7.
Any pointers appreciated!

TIA,
nan
