Windows 7: Restore Auzentech Driver

Hi Folks,



Does anyone know how to recover one of the original Windows 7 drivers, from those that were included in the original installation (I use RC1).

I installed an Auzentech Forte soundcard a while agao and Windows 7 had installed some version of the driver that it had in its database. Auzentech has recently released a beta then a final Windows 7 drivers. Unfortunately they cause static. After I installed the beta driver and experienced the static, I rolled back to the original Windows 7 driver and it was cured. This time, while testing a new driver version, it seems that I have deleted the original Windows 7 driver and cannot roll back to them (no restore point old enough). Unlike the first time(s), Windows 7 is no more able to reinstall its own driver by default after I remove the current one.

I'd like to know if anyone knows a way to go back into the Windows 7 installation DVD, or some other way, and get back that original driver.

Have you tried rolling back your PC using the system restore function? You should be able to select a previous point where the OS was working before you installed the new drivers

Yes. As I mention above, there was no restore point old enough, all happening after the old driver was deleted.

Yeah, what's up w/ that? Win 7 doesn't seem to store older restore points. Only seems to store restores when the com gets new updates. Any way to do a hard restore point?

Oh, sorry I obviously didn't read your post properly.
Any chance that running a windows update would pick up the file? Or even use the DVD of Windows 7 to search for the correct ini files?

Perhaps not what you're looking for...but did you try the "older" driver 1.0? It might not say Windows 7 but might be what you're looking for. It's on the older drivers page for Auzen.

Have you tried rolling back the driver itself through device manager?

Device manager>Sound, Video and Game Controllers>*forte>properties>driver tab>Roll back Driver


The original driver should still be in the Winsxs folder which should rollback to the original driver. If the Roll Back Driver option is greyed out (like the screenshot) then the original driver has been permanently deleted.

If installing an older driver from the auzentech site doesn't work (although it should) another alternative would be to:

uninstall the current driver through device manager, tick the 'Delete driver for this device', this will permanently delete the beta driver so it won't be re-installed after a reboot.



reboot and either let windows find a driver upon restart or if no driver is found, run WU to let it find the driver you were previously using. (hopefully not installing the beta driver instead )

I cannot roll back to the Windows driver this time because it was completely deleted. Normally, even just uninstalling the driver and rebooting would cause Windows 7 to reinstall its original one, but now all it does is install a generic "HD Audio" driver. That's my fault for choosing the delete option when I uninstalled it last time.

I also tried the older 1.0 driver version for Vista and that's what I'm using now. Per the date I remember, this may very well be the same driver. It also looks like I've solved my problem but will have to wait to be sure.

There was a strong static all over and a much lower kind of static on the right side of the headphone only. The strong static goes away when returning to the older driver. The light static was still there and I didn't remember hearing it with the original Windows 7 driver. That said, I had tried to switch the card to another PCI-e slot before I put it back in its original place and this time I screwed the card in. I removed the screw and it seems to have made the faint noise go away as well. I tried that because I had notice that pulling up on the headphone plug very slightly would cause that faint noise to increase a little.

Although it might be too early in the morning and my ears aren't working well yet We'll see later.

hi i've got the xplosion 7.1 dts connect auzentech soundcard and i normally install the vista version under compat mode and i've not experience a single isue...u might wanna give that a try
