If it works, don't fix it.
My install goes pretty much the way you have described, except for a RAID controller add-on card. Everything works quite well, with one exception.
The Windows
driver for my ATI HD3850 does not have an overscan function. When using my 24 inch monitor, not a problem. When using my 46 inch monitor, the screen image does not occupy the available screen space. So, I have to enable overscan - available only by installing ATI Catalyst Suite. I do not have to run CCC - just fire and forget.
Again, if it works, tweak it until it doesn't. I mean, don't fix it.
