Hello, I just did a clean install of WIN 7 on my compaq laptop. Now Im having a problem with the internal Mic I cant seam to find any drivers that will work for my laptop. After looking at the device manager there is only one error showing and Im sure that is for the MIC. Thx in advance for any help you may offer

Have you installed the driver for the onboard audio? If not give this one a try,

Conexant High-Definition SmartAudio 221 Driver HP G60-348CA Notebook PC - HP Customer Care (United States - English)

HP doesn't list a Windows 7 driver for your model, but I found a Windows 7 driver for the same Conexant audio on a different HP laptop.

    Are your speakers working?

The MIC (microphone) and the speakers run on the same driver. If your speakers work you may have a sound settings issue or a broken MIC jack.

@TVeblen The speakers work fine, and the mic only stopped working as soon as my win 7 install was done. The built in Mic worked great with Vista, Im gonna go out and buy a plug in mic to test but it would be more convenient for me if I can get the built in mic working

What do you find when you go to Start > Control Panel > Hardware & Sound > Sound > Recording Tab?

Check to see if the mic is recognized when you plug it in. You could also try making it the Default Device.

Also, I work on a F700 series laptop and we have always had trouble with that Conexant 221 driver. The only one that really works is the one supplied by Windows Update.

The Vista driver from HP crashes the sound (we get no sound). I've found that I can get the HP driver to work in compatibility mode only if I cancel out of the installation half way through. This indicates that the package is installing the driver and then some "enhancement software". I believe the enhancement software is what gums up the works.

But the Windows Update driver is just the driver. You could try uninstalling the sound device and rebooting and then let windows find it and install the driver. That may work, but as those Conexant drivers have already been saved in the Driver Store they may be just reinstalled. But perhaps without the "enhancements".
