Wireless + Audio skipping  

I have a new Gateway NV52 laptop i've had for about four weeks.
I switched to Windows 7 RC candidate right after i bought it.
For some reason my audio skips, no matter if its a stream like a youtube video or playing a song. I've tried playing from an external drive, no fix.
I've tried a generic driver and the driver released for my computer for vista.

I have 4g ram, AMD Athlon™ 64 X2 QL-64 Dual-Core Processor (2.1GHz).

here's what it says about my audio:
"High-Definition Audio Support (2nd Generation Dolby Sound Room® Audio Enhancement featuring Dolby® Headphone, Dolby® Natural Bass, Dolby® Sound Space Expander), Built-In speakers, Digital microphone, headphone/Speaker/Line-Out Jack with S/PDIF support"6

Idk what my wireless card is called.


The audio only skips when the wireless is on. It very bad, and I can't find a way to fix it.
Anyone know if the october release will fix this issue?
Or if there's a fix now?

I found your thread while searching for help with my new Gateway NV52. I am having the a skipping/popping sound on my laptop as well when listening to audio. I am currently running Vista. I have been troubleshooting to try and figure out where the problem is coming from and it seems at this point to be primarily when I listen to something with headphones through the headphone jack. I burned a CD copy of one of the albums I've been hearing the sounds on and it seems to play fine on a regular audio CD player...so I was able to at least isolate that it's an issue with the laptop itself. When I listen to songs just using the speakers on the laptop I'm not hearing the issue....so far it seems to be just through the headphones.

Are you having similar experiences? I'm staring to wonder if there is an issue with these laptops playing audio...

I just did some more testing while playing an audio CD. I am getting the skipping/popping both when the wireless is on and when it's off. I played some videos off youtube and for some reason those seemed to be ok...at least on the ones I tried.

...another update on this issue. I noticed that my laptop seemed to be running incredibly hot...the wooden lap desk I was using to hold the laptop felt like a pot warmer when I picked the laptop up...so today I went out and bought a Belkin laptop cooler. So far playing CD's in the drive and audio files that have been saved to the hard drive are playing much better with almost no skipping/popping like before. I'm wondering if something was overheating and causing the issues before...maybe bad placement of something inside that affects audio playback...

...we'll see if it lasts...

I have been opening/closing/toggling web sessions...scrolling the mouse around on the desktop etc...(all things that seemed to affect performance before) and so far things sound pretty good.....definitely light years better than they were before...

so here's my update:
i decided to go back to windows vista.
since i've gone back the popping/skipping in relation to my wireless card has virtually disappeared. i am going to assume there was a problem with my wireless or sound card driver in function with windows 7.
it was the rc. i am due for a switch to windows 7 in october, and if the problem is ongoing i will involve the various techs at best buy until this is fixed. dont worry users of nv series! i WILL raise hell, and i WILL get answers and support.
i dont appear to be having an overheating problem. and i know it cant be my ram.
mine is a driver issue.
i have heard from other reviews that other people with this laptop have been having problems with the mouse skipping around too. when i use the original driver i also have the problem. the solution i have found is to use a generic driver for the mousepad. is case anyone is having that problem, its a relatively easy fix.

anyone else have any thoughts?
