Drivers are corrupted or missing (Code 39)

All my USB drives are gone. I get the message, "Windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware. The driver may be corrupted or missing. (Code 39)". One of the solutions I saw was to remove any UpperFilter and LowerFilter keys in two registry values. I did that, disabled and enabled the drives but still no go. I also ran Microsoft Fixit but it was useless.

I tried a Windows repair install but it did fix it either.

Next step is re-install Win 7 I guess right? Or would it be something that even a re-install won't fix?

    Any other suggestions?

I'm current with all updates and am on a 64bit Home Premium.

    Thanks much.

Are your USB controllers enabled and properly configured in the BIOS?

Yes, USB controllers are enabled in the BIOS. Not sure about configuration as I don't see where to make any changes.

    Thanks
