    I own the same acer 5050 with xpress 1100. Only catalist 8.12 worked here.

    In my case it still shows the old version of ccc but the "latest" 8.593.100.0 driver (which came with 9.8_legacy).
    According to my system, v8.593.100 was the same driver version in legacy v9.3. So, from what I can see, the "new" 9.8 drivers are no different than the "old" 9.3 drivers.

    By the way, the person who asked the original question asked it over a month, two months ago.

    Well that's Acer: One name with different "parts".

    In my case (aspire 5051 LY.xxxxxx with tk-36 (tl-60 now)) 9.2 x64 was the only one that worked. 9.3 x64 and 9.3.1 x64 couldn't even install.

    So 9.8_legacy x64 is "new" for me. I haven't tried the x86 versions on this one but have another 5051 (the older LX.xxxxxx) which works fine with 9.3.1 x86 on XP.

    My only advice is to adjust the .ini files for the installation. These are binary files and nothing else can be done. In the worst case you can try the ini file from the driver packages from the acer ftp server. Just modify it and put it with the latest 9.8_legacy. If it still doesn't work then post in the ati forum (and don't expect an answer ).

    By the way, you know that there are TWO 9.8 packages: one 9.8_legacy that supports all old cards and the latest 9.8 that works with the rest. So don't be confused by these.

    And why don't you answer when you first saw the post? it's easy to make useless comments ...

    Pepe, I'll assume you're asking me why I didn't answer two months ago when this posting first went live?

    The answer is, I wasn't on this forum then.

    Beyond that, I just noticed the whole fact that it was two months old thingy.

    Thanks for the hint, legacy 9.8 (x64) does install here without a problem. 9.2 (9.3 didn't work) crashed sometimes playing flash videos in firefox (watchdog did work and restarted the driver a few seconds after crashing).

    @Zen00:

    You are right, but the first person is not the only one who is interested in this topic, as you can see.
