Windows 7 - Canon Pixma Printer Status Monitor

I have Windows 7 (7000) installed. Everything working except Windows 7 did not recognize my Canon Pixma iP8500 printer. OK under Vista. I manually selected a driver for Canon Pixma Pro 9500 and then re-configured the printer as an 8500 via the "advanced" tab in printer properties. Printing seems to be OK, but the Canon status monitor application can't seem to talk to the printer over the USB interface. Any ideas?

I've got the IP4200 and I downloaded the Vista64 driver from Canon...

Prints good, I get the status window for normal printing, but not when using my disc printing software...Acoustica CD label maker...

Didn't Canon have a driver for the IP8500 on thier site?

EDIT...sorry, you didn't say if you were running the 32bit or 64bit...

I am running 32 bit. I did the upgrade from Vista SP1 32 bit. When Windows 7 started, it didn't know what my printer was and when I selected "Manually select model", the iP8500 wasn't there. I did go back to the Canon site and downloaded the Vista add-on driver, but it didn't help. So, printing works OK, but the status monitor doesn't work (so I can't tell if a cartridge is running low on ink, etc.).

Any thought?

Solved the problem - Reinstalled the XP Drivers and then the Vista add on and Windows 7 now sees the printer properly and the status monitor application works correctly - didn't have to do that in Vista.

I just installed the 64 bit drivers for my Canon Pixma MP210. Went good except after it was installed it said it didn't install correctly so I reinstalled under recommended settings, which probably is in Vista64 compatibility mode. Works perfect now.

jimlavine1, it a good idea to fill out your specs as completely as possible so other members can give accurate answers to problems you may have, this includes whether or not you are running 32 or 64 bit.

I'm having a similar issue of sorts. I purchased the Canon Pixma MP240 and installed it on my system Win 7 64 bit using the included drivers disk. I used it several times for approx. 100 printed pages and about 20-30 10 card sheets of business cards successfully. After the 3rd day I tried to use it again and it's no telling me that the printer is offline on the direct print screen (popup) but if I check in the navigator area of the Canon software it tells me that the printer is online? I've installed the drivers off the disk again, removed the USB cable, started the computer several times and nada. I even downloaded the Vista 64 bit drivers and it's continuing to read out the same thing. Directly it's offline, in the software it's online?

I once again re-installed the drivers from the included software disk. I can scan and print photos that have been scanned but nothing off of the Internet. Ugh this is beginning to feel like Vista all over again. I also had an issue that showed up recently out of no where about my BFG 8800GT OC cards. It's been running fine for 2-3 months and now all of a sudden. Gameplay has slowed a bit but it is (for the time being) still runnign.
