Start-up Freeze

New Windows 7 (64-bit) HP PC freezes at start-up when my HP Officejet Pro L7680 All-in-One printer is USB-connected. If the USB cable is disconnected, the PC unfreezes and continues booting correctly, and the printer functions properly with the exception that the scanning function causes a freeze-up. Weird. There was never any of these freezing issues when the same printer was connected to my old XP machine. I have uninstalled and re-installed printer drivers to no avail. Anyone have a fix?

Divers are downloaded from HP download website. I assume they are compatible.
