Message, Prob with Atheros Valkyrie Boot ROM. B4 I mess up, ask!

    Now on WIN7 64bit, MS Office 2010 (S4S), MB ASUS P8P67 Pro Rev 3.1.

I am getting a message that there is a problem:

    1. 'Atheros Valkyrie Boot Rom' is not working properly, compatible driver not available for this version of windows. Atheros Bluetooth Device.

    2. 'Creative Game Port' is not working properly, compatible driver not available for this version of windows.

Not too bothered about 2 at the moment.

    In Device Manager there is an Other Devices-Unknown Device with a yellow warning symbol. This unknown device has no driver and in Details shows;
    Hardware ID
    USB\VID_OCF3&PID_3000&REV_0200
    USB\VID_OCF3&PID_3000

A google search seems to indicate the above problem relates to an Atheros driver and concerns internet access according to a post on this forum.

I do not want to mess things up but if there is a problem would like to get it fixed.
Windows cannot update the driver as there is nothing to update!

Can anyone suggest a solution to this? The majority of links all seem to want a license fee of around £20 to update my drivers which is a bit rich for me at the moment. One I tried said I needed quite a few but all manual checks seemed to return all those noted as out of date were in fact current.

As the unknown device is unknown and has no driver can I delete it and let Windows find it on reboot and hopefully reinstall with the right drivers?

Thanks Pebbly, I was not sure if the download was the right one or not as there was no mention of 'Valkyrie Boot Rom' with the file. I installed this file and driver detective seemed to accept it. In Device Manager under Portable Devices I now have a new yellow warning under 'Portable Devices/WPD FileSystem Volume Driver' On update driver Windows reports driver is up to date.

Any idea where the WPD problem may have came from? I do not have a laptop but do have a WD external hard drive that is working fine. One odd thing I have noted is that I have a Canon MP620 Printer and in Device Manager under Disk Drives I have a MP620 series USB Device with a windows driver, I did not think this was a Disk Drive?

Happy New Year to you all

Hi Trapper, The WPD file system Volume driver relates to CF,SD and USB pendrives , On the yellow exclaimation mark in device manager ,right click on the device and select "update driver" see if windows update find a driver for your card reader ,If not go to Asus website and redownload and install the card reader driver

    Hi Pebbly.

Brill. Worked a treat, I downloaded and installed the USB driver file from ASUS, the WPD driver problem has gone and so has my Disk Drive 'Printer'. I have now paired my phone to my PC, I guess I will find a use for this at some point......

Don't want to be cheeky, (But hey, why not when your on a roll!) but as I have not had much experience of drivers and updates, if I list those that have been reported as out of date here would you confirm if they are ASUS drivers or from other sources?

    Many thanks Pebbly.

These are the supposed driver errors as found by Driver Detective:

    IDE ATA/ATAPI Controllers
    Intel(R) 6 series /C200 series chipset family 6 port sata ahci controller - 1c02

Standard ahci 1.0 serial ata controller
Standard Dual Channel PCI IDE controller

    SOUND.
    AMD High Definition Audio Device
    High Definition Audio Device

    SYSTEM DEVICES
    (7) Intel(R) 6 series /C200 series chipset family PCI Express root port - 1C10

    USB CONTROLLERS
    (2) Intel(R) 6 series /C200 series chipset family USB Enhanced Host Controller - 1C26

There is a couple of yellow triangle warnings:

    UNPLUGGED DEVICES
    Multimedia audio controller
    PCI Input device
I do not know of any 'unplugged' multimedia audio controller or what the PCI input device refers to.

I hope you can point me in the right direction:)

Hi Trapper , First off do not rely on what driver detective is telling you These "type" of programs are not 100% accurate and leave a lot to be desired redownload the chipset drivers from asus website and install them along with the audio drivers , If after doing all that and you still get the exclaimation triangle ,right click on the device and select "update driver " and windows will find a suitable driver for you :)

Hi Pebbly. I realise these programs are at best a guide, and I am sure that some report errors just to get you to sign up. I use PC Tools SD with AV and on every install or renew it always finds a couple of low risk infections and to remove them you need to pay . Once the license is activated again the problems go away.....

I had already reinstalled the audio drivers from the Asus site, and the Chipset drivers but the same errors are still reported, I was thinking that I may need to go somewhere else, intel maybe.

I will try once more but I don't think I will improve the situation. Device manager is showing no problems so if no change I will leave alone. your help is appreciated.

    Best regards

    Trapper.
