Oh dear, still a prob! wpd file system volume driver  

I have upgraded from XP Home 32bit to Windows 7 64bit, clean install of Win 7. I have installed my Canon MP620 printer from the installation CD. In device manager under 'Portable Devices' there is an error (Triangle) shown as 'WPD Filesystem volume driver' The installed drivers are:
C:\windows\system32\drivers\UMDF\WpdFs.dll
C:\windows\system32\drivers\WVDFRd.sys
Under General tab the message 'This device cannot start (Code 10)' is shown.
When I disconnect the printer the error message disappears.
I have uninstalled then reinstalled the drivers from the supplied CD M1.1 QH7-3543-01 and still had the same problem. I went on line to the Canon download section and downloaded MP620svst64101ej driver file which was listed as support for 64 bit OS, but on installation was advised I had a later driver already installed.
Windows also reported the current drivers as being the latest.


I have searched the Windows help files and have run the suggested Fixit program that reported the WPD file system volume driver has a problem. but NOT Fixed and that Hardware changes might not have been detected!

I am at a loss to know how to correct this error, since this installation I have suffered many BSOD and programs that report 'XXX has stopped working'.....I need to eliminate the WPD error in case this is the cause.

Hi zigzag.
That link was really useful . I have followed the suggestions including adding the system variable. Also the 9 point suggestion but at point 8 assign drive letter my PC froze and needed a manual re-boot.

All the suggestions failed to correct the problem which I was sure was a printer driver problem and had contacted Canon for a suggestion. Today they replied with a link to a newer Win 7 64 bit driver (On board and after market scans reported I had the latest drivers installed)

I downloaded and installed the new drivers and the problem has at last gone, (well at the moment anyway!) but time will tell .
