Sony Vaio CS17G - Touch Pad not working Properly?

    Hi,

I am using Sony Vaio CS17G with W7 Pro x86. Mostly I use a USB Mouse with my notebook.

    Lately, I have observed that the notebook's touchpad has been behaving erratic. At times;

    1) Right click menu is opened when clicking left buttons or tapping on the pad.
    2) Sometimes, it keeps selecting the files while simply moving around the toucpad.
    3) Left & Right Buttons of the pad do not respond.

and so on. The problem looks to be of the drivers.

Should I simply unistall & re-install the Synaptics Pointing Driver for 32bit available here.

    The short answer - yes

It certainly can't hurt to give it a go.
Get the download from the link you have posted ensuring that you
choose the Pro version for 32 bit if that is in fact what you are using
    according to your spec info.

Use the download link located under the 4 step download and install instructions (download link not seen in provided image).

I would recommend downloading the driver, uninstalling the currently installed driver
through device manager and then without rebooting (so Windows does not get a chance to auto find hardware driver software) install the driver.

    Uninstall current driver:
Start Button (Windows orb) -> Control Panel -> Device Manager -> Expand Mice and Pointing Devices -> Uninstall current touchpad driver -> install downloaded driver -> check in device manager that the device is functioning properly

    Good luck :)

I had same problem for over a year and since I mostly used on my desk, was feeling fine with the mouse until just a few minutes back when I solved it out. The problem happens when windows get updated to its latest driver for the Alps touchpad for Sony.. Actually it gets recognized as Synaptics PS/2 usb... If u simply uninstall that driver, u can see it working but again it gets updated and u get returning the problem.

So the final way it worked out for me was to install the latest driver from synaptics - Drivers | Synaptics.
