Windows 7 64 bit driver for HP 990 cxi printer

The driver for my old HP 990cxi printer is not included in Windows 7 Ultimate 64 Bit.
When connecting to the Internet Windows checks for newer versions of drivers and with that
I was able to get the HP printer working.

My question: where does Windows save the driver package after such an online update?
Is there a way to download this package and make the driver update offline afterwards?

There is an application called driver backup that does just that. When you have the most current drivers for your setup and run driver backup, you have a set of the drivers you can store anywhere you like (just in case back up the backup)

Do you have a link for that?
Google shows several programs with such a name.

    Thanks in advance

    Thanks for your answer.
But this is only half of the solution.
Where does Windows 7 store such downloads?

It doesn't necessarily save it. It could be run and installed from where it's located. When you download a program it usually asks whether you want to save it or run it. For driver updates you won't be asked. It will just run.

I should have said when you plug in a printer, scanner, etc., Windows will go out and get the drivers and install. If you went to the manufacturers website and got them you would then be given the option to save or run.

I am talking about the Windows update by Internet (as it is the case with the 990cxi drivers).
It works but I'd like to know where Windows stores that stuff.
I guess Windows won't put it into memory only?

They could be downloaded to a temp file, installed and then deleted. If you go to Windows Update and click on View Update History you can see all updates by date. If you then click on Installed Updates near the top of the page you will see the updates according to category. If you click the back arrow you will see troubleshoot problems with installing updates.
