Well for some reason video drivers don't always clean-up after themselves when uninstalled which has caused problems on upgrades/re-installs in the past. This has been true of both ATI and Nvidia. Hence the need for programs like DC Pro, etc.

The release notes need to offer a good reason to update before I will do so as the update can, at times, create more problems than they solve. And then I always do an image backup before a video driver update.
